FAQ’S
What is a SmartPanel? A SmartPanel is an LED edge lit acrylic etched panel that is
used with an architectural flip frame to illuminate graphic and advertising images.
What is the advantage of an LED lit panel? SmartPanels use less energy than their
traditional fluorescent counterparts, last longer and are more compact. In addition to all
of these advantages, they also produce more brightness and better uniformity across the
graphic image. Flip frames allow for quick graphic exchanges.
Why should I specify an Insight SmartPanel? While there are many framed sign
products on the market and many of them offered online from overseas vendors, none
match the combination of high lighting performance with the integrity of manufacturing.
Our LED platforms are housed in the highest quality architectural frames to offer the
designer a long lasting, sustainable solution to their signage needs. While most sign
manufacturers are content to offer cheaper solutions with lower brightness, uniformity,
and abbreviated life expectancy, we do not. Insight LED platforms are designed to last
for ten years or more with little dilution in performance, we are the only manufacturer to
offer an integral power supply option, to make the installation as simple as possible.
What is the energy consumption of the SmartPanel products. Consumption depends
on the size and performance of the panel required. All Insight SmartPanels are
comprised of one foot long platforms using 9 watts of energy per foot.
What is the thickness of your SmartPanel? The Insight SPD series is 2 ¼ inch deep to
accommodate the integral power supplies. The SPA series is 1 inch deep and utilizes a
remote power supply.
What is the largest size the SmartPanel is offered in? We manufacture the SmartPanel
SPD series in 15 standard sizes up to 48”x 96” with a nominal dimension of 50 by 98
inclusive of the aluminum frame.
Can SmartPanels be dimmed? No, the present product cannot be dimmed.
Are SmartPanels UL listed? All SmartPanels come with a UL/CUL listing, UL48.
How are SmartPanels mounted? There are two preferred methods of installing the
SmartPanel products to the wall. One is the Z bracket that can be pre-mounted to the
wall structure allowing the simple hanging and securing of the sign to the bracket. The
sign is available with direct bolt thru as an option.
Can SmartPanels be used outdoors? No, the SmartPanels are listed for indoor use
only.
What is the warranty of the SmartPanel? There is a two year limited warranty on
fixture replacement or repair. Warranty is void if the fixture is disassembled or
compromised.
Can I order a two sided sign panel? Yes, although it is not a cataloged item, we can
build two products with a mounting plate to allow various suspended mountings.

Lower maintenance costs
LED platforms considerably reduce maintenance costs compared to typical
fluorescent sign products. 50,000 - 70,000 hours estimated life versus 10,000
hours life for fluorescent lamps.
High luminous intensity
State of the art engraved, luminous acrylic sheets integrated with high power LED
platforms create significantly more flux (cd/m2), and uniformity than traditional
sign products or other low wattage LED offerings. These increased values equate
to greater brightness and depth on the graphic.
Reduced energy load
SmartPanels consume 30-40% less energy, regardless of size, than typical
fluorescent sign panels, making them an excellent choice for energy conscious
applications.
Rapid graphic replacement
Tool-less and lockable entry of the flip frame allows for easy and simple
replacement of graphic images.
Size options
Panels are available in 15 standard sizes up to 48”x 96” and custom sizes.
Finish options
Mounting frames are available in 5 standard finishes and custom RAL powder
coat colors.
Power supplies
High quality aluminum extruded mounting frames are available with integral or
remote 24v power supplies for simple panel installation.
UL48 listed
All Insight SmartPanel products carry appropriate UL listings for signage.

The search for architectural illuminated signage has historically been a challenge
for the design consultant. Traditional sign boxes, or back lit fluorescent products
have been bulky, inefficient, and often come with expensive maintenance contracts.
Other technologies, like cold cathode or edge lit T5HO lamps have reduce the bulk
of the box, but have not enhanced the quality of the lighted surface. Today’s graphic
designers demand performance, and today’s building owners demand efficiency!

THE INSIGHT LED TECHNOLOGY
There are many choices available to the manufacturer for the control of LED’s used in
illumination. Suffice to say, that whatever the application or industry, the enemy of an
LED is heat, condensation and electrostatic discharge (ESD). Continued exposure to
all or any of these environments impacts longevity and performance.
The manner in
which heat is dissipated, the LED's are protected from condensation and the chosen
manufacturing process, is what differentiates serious manufacturers from one another.
Imbedded science, sealed electronics and a controlled manufacturing process are the
benchmarks of Insight's digital family of products.
Insight LED lighting fixtures, whether SmartEdge T M , Architectural Wayfinding or TRE'O TM
digital LED products employ a combination of sciences that create an environment of low
temperature and sealed electronics. Insight’s design approach equates to longer life,

Slim Frame Design
An extruded aluminum flip frame allows for easy tool-less graphic exchange. The aluminum frame encompasses the entire perimeter of the acrylic panel
unless otherwise specified. The default finish is satin anodized aluminum.
Painted surfaces are pretreated with a phosphate wash and powder coated
to a 3 mil thickness. Custom painted finishes may be specified.
Custom Acrylic Panel
SmartPanelTM is available in architectural sizes up to 32 square feet and
Industry Standard Poster sizes up to 24 square feet. The custom engraved
acrylic provides 1 to 1 uniformity.
Insight LED Technology
Insight's SmartPanelTM is manufactured employing heat dissipating designs,
which equate to a complete approach to long life and performance. See
technology statement on page 4.
High Performance LED Platforms
Static White light color temperatures are available in 2900°K, 3400°K, 4200°K
and 5500°K. 5500°K is the default.
Mounting Options
The SmartPanelTM is available in two wall mount versions; "Z" Bracket and
Concealed Bolt. Energy Savings
Insight's UL Listed integral power supplies are provided in 120/277V
Universal/24V DC. SmartPanelTM products are also compatible with UL dry
location approved enclosures for remote placement.
