New Position POSITION DETAILS: Position Title: Division: Population Sciences Position reports to: (role) Marulu Strategy Coordinator Location: include all possible locations POSITION PURPOSE: Replacement Position Position re-designed Position not previously described SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER - FASD PREVENTION STRATEGY Department: Alcohol and Pregnancy and FASD Research Group 100 Roberts Road Subiaco In one or two sentences briefly summarise the overall purpose of this role, i.e. broadly, what this role does and why We are seeking a senior research officer to join the Marulu Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Prevention Strategy Team, to assist with all aspects of research design, data collection, analysis and reporting relating to the Marulu FASD Prevention Strategy and related projects. This is an opportunity for a senior research officer experienced in epidemiology/biostatistics, health promotion, and/or applied research. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Key Position Accountabilities What are the main areas for which the position is accountable Research (Please list in order of importance) % of Total Role Inputs: What are the key activities or tasks to be carried out? 70 % Outputs: What are the expected end results? Assist with the development of study design, evaluation framework and research protocols High quality peer-reviewed study protocol developed and published Measures: How it is measured Study protocols peer reviewed and published Knowledge transfer 30% Develop data collection and management frameworks, protocols instruments, and databases High quality data management protocols, data collection instruments, and databases developed Data collection instruments and databases finalised prior to data collection Manage all aspects of project data entry and cleaning Complete datasets entered and cleaned for analysis Provide qualitative and quantitative data analysis Data Analysis Plan developed High quality statistical analysis completed and outputs generated All data entered and locked down for analysis in a timely manner Data and outputs are of the highest quality Results and outputs incorporated into peer reviewed publications Ensure data integrity and quality assurance tasks are robustly applied Data managed in compliance with Telethon Kids Institute and custodian policies and relevant legislation 100% compliance with data security policies and procedures Assist with reviews of literature relating to the Marulu FASD Prevention Strategy and related projects High quality summaries of evidence provided to inform the work Incorporation of literature reviews into peer reviewed publications Assist with the preparation of grant and ethics applications and reports Successful grant and ethics applications Number of successful grant applications, ethics approvals and completed reports Assist in the preparation of research papers for publication Papers published in peer-reviewed journals Number of papers published in peer reviewed journals by the study team Assist with the preparation of presentations for conferences and workshops, and in the writing of reports, articles and other documents such as lay summaries High quality presentation materials, timely written reports, articles and other documents Number of presentations and reports developed and delivered by the study team ESSENTIAL SKILLS , KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Qualifications: what are the minimum educational, technical or professional qualifications required to competently perform role MPH or PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion Skills, Knowledge & Experience: Extensive experience in study design and data management Experience in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of data in health or related fields Demonstrated experience in preparation of data outputs for presentations and publications Experience in the preparation of research papers and reports Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic team Excellent written communication skills Experience in undertaking literature reviews Knowledge of alcohol use in pregnancy and FASD Training or experience in health promotion, public health or behavioural research Experience in the field of Aboriginal health or research Ability to travel to remote Aboriginal communities for up to 2 weeks at a time to conduct data collection DESIRABLE SKILLS , KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Qualifications: what are the minimum educational, technical or professional qualifications required to competently perform role Skills, Knowledge & Experience: SCOPE: Financial accountability: Does this role have accountability for a budget?
