It is an obligation for every Muslim to give
dawah, or ‘invite’ people to the Truth, that we
have been blessed with by Allah Subhana Wa
Ta’Ala. The 877-Why-Islam project was
established by Islamic Circle of North America
(ICNA) to fulfill this duty of communicating
knowledge of Islam to humanity. To fight
prejudice, we must first fight ignorance.
Removing ignorance about Islam and Muslims

Our toll free hotline makes it really easy for
non-Muslims to ask questions about Islam
anonymously. Our toll free hotline receives
calls from all over USA as well as Canada.
Our callers request free literature and ask
questions, while some embrace Islam over
the phone! Presently our call volume is
approximately 500 calls per month. The
hotline hours of operation are from 9 AM to
9 PM (EST), seven days a week.

tourist locations. Volunteers answer
questions, discuss Islam, and distribute
dawah brochures to passer-bys and those
visiting. Alhamdulillah, the booths have
generated positive media coverage and
public awareness and interest.

Cyberspace Dawah’ is on the rise. In
addition to the website, 877-Why-Islam
provides one-to-one email correspondence
between WhyIslam volunteers and visitors
to the site. Individuals interested, may
request a dialogue with a Muslim, in order
to have the opportunity for discussion and
sharing of ideas. Many of our email
correspondents continue to stay in touch,
while then moving on to verbal discussions
on the 1-877-Why-Islam hotline. Many have
ultimately embraced Islam, Alhamdulillah!
On average, we
receive 200 email correspondence requests
per month.

A HUGE SUCCESS!
The forum features productive discussions
on various topics such as Inter-religious
dialogues, basic Islamic beliefs, revert
stories, current events, etc. Alhamdulillah,
discussions have resulted in shahadahs.
Insha Allah, we plan to launch live chat
feature in the near future.

New Shahadas and persons interested in

relationships, developing community ties,
and one-on-one personal discussions.
WhyIslam offers individual mosque visits to
provide the opportunity to experience

Media is being used more against Islam
than for Islam. One of the reasons for this
situation is unavailability of sufficient funds
with Islamic organizations for this
expensive endeavor. A media opportunity
however
exists for us, which is inexpensive and
doable! In many cities there are public
access cable TV channels. By law such a
channel must exist and is funded by giant
media networks to provide venue for all to
reach out to public.
The 877-Why-Islam has launched "WhyIslam TV" on public access cable TV
channels. Several TV productions
explaining Islamic principles are available
for your community’s use.

DAWAH IN PUBLIC
SCHOOLS
Reaching the youth has not always been
an area explored by those in the Dawah
field. Our representatives visit public
schools sharing knowledge of Islam as an
attempt to correct the misrepresentations
often found in secular reading materials.

INMATES
CORRESPONDENCE
Our incarcerated Muslim brothers and
sisters are in need of a consistent support
system. 877-Why-Islam has established a
program of correspondence with prisons
nationwide. We provide inmates with
letters, materials and special requested
items, and arrange Jummah khutbahs and
prison visits.

DAWAH
WORKSHOPS
877-Why-Islam offers dawah workshops to
train and acclimate volunteers in specific
dawah situations as well as to provide tools
for effective communication when
introducing and discussing Islam. The
training sessions have been extremely
successful, Alhamdulillah.

several visits were arranged with various
public agencies to offer information on
Islamic etiquette, behaviors and cultural vs.
Islamic issues that tend to ‘plague’ our
reputation. These sessions are extremely

broadening both awareness and sensitivity
of those individuals responsible for law
enforcement, while strengthening future
relationships, InshaAllah.
