Thank you to all who worked so hard to make
our Holy Week liturgies so special. Each
liturgical celebration involved parishioners
using their gifts for the good of others:
whether it was the gift of music, decorations, or simple
hospitality, it was a wonderful example of what it means to be
a Christian. The Octave of Easter continues this weekend with
Divine Mercy Sunday. In an Angelus address of September
16, 2007 Pope Benedict highlighted the centrality of mercy in
the gospel message: “True religion thus consists in being
attuned to God’s Heart, ‘rich in mercy,’ which asks us to love
everyone, even those who are distant and our enemies
imitating the Heavenly Father who respects the freedom of
each one and draws everyone to himself with the invincible
power of his faithfulness.”
If we take this passage literally, the command to love
would also apply to those who, at the time, may appear to be
causing us harm. How is this possible? The Pope who urges us
to “never despair of God’s mercy” points to the example of
Judas as an instrument of Divine Mercy. The Pope explains:
“When we think of the negative role Judas played we must
consider it according to the lofty ways in which God leads
events. His betrayal led to the death of Jesus, who transformed
this tremendous torment into a space of salvific love by
consigning himself to the Father. The word ‘to betray’ is the
version of a Greek word that means ‘to consign.’ Sometimes
the subject is even God in person; it was he who for love
‘consigned’ Jesus for all of us. In his mysterious salvific plan,
God assumes Judas’ inexcusable gesture as the occasion for
the total gift of his Son for the redemption of the world.” Read
these words over, letting your mind soak up their meaning.
Pope Benedict is saying that Judas, in a mysterious way,
advanced God’s ultimate purpose, which was and is to save us
from our sins. There is no evil that the transforming,
redeeming power of God’s love cannot overcome.
Do you see how living this message can transform the
world? Divine Mercy puts a limit on evil in the person of Jesus
Christ. St. Faustina, the recipient of the messages of mercy
from Jesus Christ wrote the following words of Jesus in her
Diary. He says: “I have opened My heart as a living fountain
of mercy. Let all souls draw life from it. Let them approach
this sea of mercy with great trust (diary, 1520). I am offering
people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces
to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the
signature: ‘Jesus I trust in You.’ (327) The graces of My mercy
are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is-trust. The
more a soul trusts, the more it will receive.” Regarding the
graces to be received this weekend, Jesus Himself says in St.
Faustina’s Diary: “The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very
depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly
celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not
have peace until it turns to the fount of My Mercy.”
Coinciding with the beatification of Pope John Paul II, this
Divine Mercy Sunday promises to be special. My prayer is that
our parish can turn the tidal wave of evil by extending the
message of mercy. People need to know Jesus Christ, People
need to know they are healed by His wounds, and people need
to know that His Heart is full of love and Mercy. May God be

93.73% of all pledges have been collected to date. Thank you
for your timely payments.

we dedicate and bless our new Allen organ. Immediately
following the blessing will be an organ recital performed by
acclaimed organ virtuoso Aram Basmadjian. Mr. Basmadjian
is sure to provide a musically rewarding experience as he
demonstrates the many colors and sounds of our new
organ. You don’t want to miss out on this truly extraordinary
event and talented concert organist.
FREE Dinner & Movie
Friday May 6th, 6-8:30 PM. The ProLife Committee and
Belltown Council of Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a
movie "Bella" (PG 13), a top rated film of 2007, on Friday
May 6th in the Parish Center. A Light Dinner will be served at
6 PM and the 90 minute movie begins at 6:30. Fr Nagle will
give a short commentary after the movie.

Faith Formation Registration will remain open for one more

schedule an appointment. Classes are filled as the completed
registration forms are received in the Faith Formation Office.

Introduction-Liturgy of the Word:
One week after our Easter Sunday celebration, we return at
God’s invitation to continue our great Easter season of fifty
days. Let us follow the example of the early Christians, who
“devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the
communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.”
We who have not seen and yet believe in the Resurrection are
called to be signs of the Resurrection to others. May our
Eucharist today nourish us for that task.

Co-Sponsoring a Women’s ACTS Retreat, June 2-5, 2011, at
the newly renovated “Immaculata Retreat House” located in
Willimantic, CT. The goals of the retreat are to strengthen your
faith and its application in your daily life, to renew yourself
spiritually, and to build community through lasting

Columbus Scholarships
The St. Patrick Guild and the Knights of Columbus will be
presenting two $1,000 scholarship to a senior who is a member
of St. Patrick Parish and is looking to further his or her
education at a one-year, two-year, or four-year school or
college. In order to qualify for the scholarship, you MUST be a
member of St. Patrick Church, a graduating senior high school
student. Applications are available in guidance offices at East
Hampton High School, Xavier High School and Mercy High
School. Applications are also available in the Parish Office.
The completed applications and attached transcripts of all high
