This is a general curriculum guide and might not be applicable to all students.

Courses that have GE are required in the major and also fulfill a section of the general education program.

Two Supplemental Writing Skills (SWS) requirements; 1 in the general education program and 1 in your major.

Student must have a minimum of 120 credits to graduate with 58 of the 120 credits being from a senior level institution
and the final 30 of the 120 credits being completed at GVSU.

Application Process for Medical Laboratory Science
Phase I ~ Prerequisites
Phase I consists of having the following prerequisites met or being currently enrolled at the time of application.
The prerequisites are:
 Overall and science GPA of 2.8 or above
 BMS 208
 BIO 120
 CHM 109
 Completion of 45 hours
Phase II ~ Application Requirements
Applicants must submit all materials to the Director of the Medical Laboratory Science program (see address below).

The application consists of the following components all of which must be completed and submitted by February 15
prior to the intended winter entry. Late applications will be considered assuming requirements are met and space is
available in the program. All forms are available at www.gvsu.edu/mls
 Completed MLS application
 Resume
 Unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
 1 – 2 page statement of professional philosophy (Why have you chosen MLS as a profession?)
 Three completed MLS recommendation forms
One from a chemistry faculty
One from any science faculty
One of applicant’s choice
NOTE: Recommendations are to be returned by the respondent (not applicant) directly to the MLS program office
noted below

When the application packet is complete, prospective students will be invited for an interview with MLS Program
Director and/or faculty – this interview may include a handwritten essay.
Phase III ~ Official Admission Notification
Upon completion of Phase I and II, students will be notified of admission into the program and will be asked to set up
an advising appointment with a Medical Laboratory Science faculty member.
