affords local Delta Gammas many
enriching opportunities! We have three
great chapters that offer a variety of
events and special interest groups covering many different pursuits. We all live
busy and fun filled lives, so it is up to us
to take advantage of the activities and
friendships that DG offers. We hope you
spend some time looking at all the activities available to us and plan to join us at
one or more. Remember, paying dues to
any chapter will help support the many
programs to which we are fortunate to
have access.

Washington, DC Fall Programs
September—Fall Kickoff “Champagne Brunch.” Join your fellow Delta Gammas for WDC DG’s annual and
most popular event. The champagne brunch is the perfect opportunity to see old friends and reconnect with the
alumnae chapter. We’ll also introduce you to other DGs that are new to the DC area or to WDC DG. We hope you can

October—Book signing and discussion with the author of Perfect on Paper. Join your WDC DG Alumnae sisters and collegians from American University for a fun evening with fellow DG Alumna and author Maria Murnane.
Maria will discuss her award-winning novel Perfect on Paper, the tale of one woman’s dating perils and quest for the
perfect life. Maria is a graduate of UC Berkeley and received her master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism
at Northwestern University. Like the main character in Perfect on Paper, Maria spent a few years in sports PR before
she quit her job and ended up in Argentina for a year playing semi-pro soccer. Bored with the books she was reading,
Maria decided to write and eventually publish her own book. Maria will also talk about ditching the rat race with no
idea what to do (other than not to go to work anymore) and how her adventures led her to write this novel. Books will
be available for sale and personally signed by Maria. More information about Maria and her book is available at

November—Foundation Event: CLB Holiday Toy Drive. Let’s start to get into the holiday spirit! Join your sisters in making vision-friendly holiday cards for the children at the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind. Each year we
collect donations to put towards toys and gifts for visually impaired children attending CLB’s Children’s Holiday Party
in December. We will provide CLB with the holiday cards and toys at our annual Holiday Tea. Mocktails and refreshments will be served. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Tonya at [email protected].

December—Tea for the Holidays. This ladies-only afternoon tea has quickly become a favorite holiday

sisters. In lieu of a gift exchange, we invite you to bring a small donation for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. We will also
create and sign holiday cards for elderly Delta Gamma sisters—our Golden Anchormates—and collect goodies to send
to the collegiate chapters to enjoy while they study for finals..

young at heart. This group will get
out and about in Montgomery
County to enjoy the best the area
offers. Activities planned for the year
include rock climbing, a winery
tour, and cultural events.

Let’s Dish—To raise funds for Service for Sight we invite you to participate in a tasty fundraising activity: Let's Dish.
Let's Dish is an easy and fun way to get healthy, homemade dinners on your table. 10% of the proceeds go to NoVA

Delta Gamma Cookbook—How many times have you asked a sister for a recipe, then misplaced the recipe card and
had to call her again? Well, you won’t have to worry anymore! NoVA DG is putting together a cookbook to be published
in the spring of 2010. Recipe submissions are due by January 15, 2010. For more information on submitting a recipe,

Virginia Diner Peanut Fundraiser—Due to continued success, the NoVA Chapter will again sell Virginia Diner
Peanuts this fall. Proceeds will supplement the chapter’s regular treasury. Brochures will be available at NOVA’s
September meeting. To ensure delivery prior to the November meeting, orders are due to Sarah Bird by October 19.

Join the Helpful Hannahs ListServe—Interested in volunteer opportunities around the Washington, DC metro area?
A monthly update on various opportunities with various levels of time commitment is being developed. Many of these
opportunities will be Service for Sight based, but some will be outside that area. This will give members interested in
community involvement an opportunity to find a sister to do volunteer work with. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jen Olsen at [email protected] or 202-431-0646.
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind - Readers & Friendly Visitors Program—Participants in the Readers &
Friendly Visitors volunteer program are adult volunteers who are matched one-on-one with blind or visually impaired
adults. Volunteers arrange weekly meetings with clients at their homes to assist with activities, such as reading mail,
grocery shopping or running errands. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, sign up for the
next volunteer orientation! New volunteers will learn about CLB and about being a guide to an individual with a visual
impairment. It is greatly appreciated if you complete the volunteer application forms before attending, but it is not
necessary. If you are interested, please contact Jen Olsen at [email protected].
Shopping for Foundation—You can help Delta Gamma Foundation while you shop! By shopping online for various
brand name stores, a portion of each purchase will be donated to Delta Gamma Foundation once you register at

Your local alumnae chapters submit Campbell’s UPC codes and lids to the Delta Gamma Foundation, which uses
them to provide much-needed equipment to the Delta Gamma schools for children who are blind or visually
impaired. Just clip the UPC code or save the lid! Products include:

Helen Palmer Kettler Scholarship
The Northern Virginia alumnae chapter annually offers a $1000 scholarship to any Delta Gamma alumna or collegian
residing in Northern Virginia. This scholarship applies to both undergraduate and graduate students who will be
attending a college or university in the fall of 2010. For additional criteria and an application, visit

There are three great choices available to Delta Gamma alumnae living in the greater Washington Metropolitan area:
Maryland Suburban, Northern Virginia, and Washington DC. Even if you cannot attend meetings or social functions, you
can assist these groups and the Fraternity in their efforts to Do Good by paying your dues. Your dues also support the
cost of printing and mailing our newsletters. We cannot do it without you! (We will forward your $20.50 per capita dues
