jewishwisdomandwellness.org Jewish Wisdom. It’s good for your health. “Healing is a task of all Jews and requires a search for wholeness where the individual and the community are joined in care for all.” RABBI WILLIAM CUTTER Founding Director, Kalsman Institute on Judaism & Health Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion THE KALSMAN INSTITUTE In the connections between Judaism and health, the Kalsman Institute of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion is a catalyst for interaction, discussions and partnerships among spiritual leaders, healthcare providers, and Jewish community professionals and members. Kalsman also provides pastoral education to future Reform leaders on the Los Angeles HUC-JIR campus. Conferences and workshops convened and co-sponsored by Kalsman generate ideas and projects on Jewish spirituality and healing, bioethics, illness and wellness, and the health of the healthcare system. Through an international network of nearly 3000 Kalsman Partners, the Institute makes positive contributions to Jewish thought and practice through training, collaboration and dialogue. jewishwisdomandwellness.org “AYELET” BY JUDITH MARGOLIS / WWW.BRIGHTIDEABOOKS.COM The Week of Learning is an interdisciplinary communitywide series of events, lectures, and experiential classes hosted across the streams of Jewish life by community organizations and synagogues throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. The week opens and concludes with special events hosted by the Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health of Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion and Cedars-Sinai. Programs will mine Jewish tradition focusing on improving health, well-being and healing in the Jewish community. It will be a festival of engaged discussion, wisdom from our sages and physical practice that draws on Judaism’s rich and distinctively multifaceted influences in religion, spirituality, culture, and peoplehood. Learn something so old it’s new. “The Week of Learning connects the entire community through a deep engagement of classic and contemporary texts as well as sacred ritual to spark greater spiritual wellness, wisdom and healing; a “refuah shleimah” in the broadest sense of the term.” RABBI JASON WEINER Senior Rabbi and Manager of the Spiritual Care Department at Cedars-Sinai CEDARS-SINAI Cedars-Sinai’s commitment to meeting the community’s health needs has been its defining quality since its founding in 1902 as the 12-bed Kaspare Cohn Hospital in Angeleno Heights. Our dedication to excellence, compassion and innovation is rooted in the Judaic tradition as well as to the art and science of healing, which informs every aspect of our four-fold mission: • Leadership and excellence in delivering quality healthcare services • Expanding the horizons of medical knowledge through biomedical research • Educating and training physicians and other healthcare professionals • Striving to improve the health status of the community Cedars-Sinai’s commitment to community benefit—including free and part-pay care for the uninsured and those with limited means—is not just part of our mission and responsibility to the community, it’s how we express our Jewish values. Partnering with the Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health by co-creating Jewish Wisdom and Wellness: A Week of Learning is just another way for Cedars-Sinai to engage the community and fulfill our mission. jewishwisdomandwellness.org Learn more about the events, the presenters and the partner organizations on our website: jewishwisdomandwellness.org ALL EVENTS ARE FREE!
