Standards of Foreign Language Learning
Tutor Enterprises’ software and workbooks reflect the five underlying

Communication: A learner has
1) the opportunity to hear correct pronunciation of Spanish as spoken
in the Americas and Spain in our spoken bilingual dictionary and
throughout the production
2) a springboard for conversation and for expressing his own
opinions, thoughts and feelings.
3) insight into the workings of language and the Spanish language
in particular culminating in an understanding of the underlying
rules of language which permit him to understand and interpret
spoken and written Spanish.
Cultures of the world: A learner develops an appreciation and an
understanding of the Spanish-speaking world, its rich cultural variations
and commonalities such as modes of address, socio-linguistics (what
and how to say it in a social setting), customs, meals, etc.
Comparative Linguistics and Cultural Comparisons: A learner develops
an awareness of differences and also similarities in the English and
Spanish languages and in the civilizations they reflect.
Connections to other disciplines: Language does not exist in a vacuum
and is a reflection of human experience. This material links language to
geography, history, art, foods, technology for everyday living, telling
time, talking about weather, describing people, events and scenes as
language is used as a vehicle to learn in other areas of human
experience.
Communities at home and abroad: Students are encouraged to become
life-long learners as they use the target language for enjoyment and to
enrich their lives. A connection of the Spanish language and
communities where it is spoken is established. Learners are encouraged
to become aware of jobs and professions that require, or are enhanced
by a knowledge of Spanish.
