1 FUNCTION
Offshore Standard DNV-OS-F101 -- Submarine Pipeline Systems, developed by DET
NORSKE VERITAS (DNV), is a widely used standard which gives criteria and guidance on
concept development, design, construction, operation and abandonment of Submarine
Pipeline Systems.
DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM is a set of PC software developed to check design limit state
criteria in Section 5 of DNV-OS-F101. Actually, although DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM is
similar with some software of the same kind, it has several more features as following:
1. DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM combines DNV-OS-F101 2000, 2007, 2010 and 2012
together. Users can choose any version as check criteria.
2. DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM has more functions, such as buckle arrestor capacity check
and accidental load check.
3. AUTOPIPE result check. AUTOPIPE result file can be checked by DNV-OS-F101
CheckerTM directly and easily.

3 HOW TO USE
Brief procedure of running DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM is shown as following:
1. Choose DNV-OS-F101 version
Click on the down arrow of combobox “DNV-OS-F101 Version” to choose DNV-OS-F101
version for check. Some parameters will appear or disappear according to the version user
chosen. DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM provides 4 versions of DNV-OS-F101 for user to choose,
which are 2000, 2007, 2010 and 2012. All the versions are latest amended version.

2. Specify check items
3
DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM User Manual
Click on the checkbox “Burst”, “Collapse and Propagating”, “Buckle Arrestor” in “WALL
THICKNESS DESIGN” groupbox and checkbox “Load Controlled”, “Displacement
Controlled” in “LOAD INTERACTION” groupbox to specify the items user wants to check.
Color of the blanks need to be filled will change to blue corresponding to the items user
specified.

3. Input parameters
Input all the parameters into the blanks which are blue. Click “Open Case” or “Save Case”
button to read the parameters from case file or save the parameters as a case file.
4. Calculate
Click two “Calculate” buttons to run the check calculation. One of the EXCEL sheet will be

opened and the check result will show in the sheet. The name of opened EXCEL sheet is
“2000”, “2007”, “2010” or “2012” according the DNV-OS-F101 version user chose.
5. AUTOPIPE check
Click ”AUTOPIPE” button, then AUTOPIPE check panel will appear at right side.
Fig. 3.3 AUTOPIPE check
Functions of the buttons on AUTOPIPE check panel are:
“Open Case” and “Save Case”: Read and save parameters inputted for AUTOPIPE.
“Add” and “Delete”: Add or delete an AUTOPIPE section.
“Up” and “Down”: Move the position of an AUTOPIPE section.
“Rename All”: Rename all the sections as “Section X”. By double clicking the name of
section in the following listbox, user can input name for the section.
“Pre-Process”: Prepare the check worksheet for AUTOPIPE. A dialogue box will show for
5
DNV-OS-F101 CheckerTM User Manual
user to choose an AUTOPIPE output file. Then one EXCEL sheet will be opened. The
name of opened EXCEL sheet is “AUTOPIPE 2000”, “AUTOPIPE 2007”, “AUTOPIPE
2010” or “AUTOPIPE 2012” according the DNV-OS-F101 version user chose. After that, a
file which has the same name with the AUTOPIPE output file but an additional prefix
“Filtered-” will be generated in the directory of AUTOPIPE output file, in which unwanted
information is deleted. It should be noted that, user should set the AUTOPIPE output file as
the format in which functional load is put in the first line and environmental loads in
following lines. In sheet 1, input parameters and intermediate results will be listed. in sheet
2, all the nodes and work case name will be listed, user should specify section number (1, 2,
3…) for each node and specify “ULS” or “ALS” for each work case. If “ULS” is specified,
then the load values in the line of this work case will be recognized as environmental loads,
accidental loads is set as zero, load combination “a” and “b” will be checked. If “ALS” is
specified, then the load values in the line of this work case will be recognized as accidental
loads, environmental loads is set as zero, load combination “d” will be checked. After
clicking “Pre-Process”, “Calculate” button will be enabled.
“Calculate”: Run the check for AUTOPIPE, results will be calculated and showed in sheet 3
and following sheets.
The sections will show in the below box, click them, and then input the parameters for the
current section in the blue blanks in left part.
