Overview
Intellectual property (IP) covers intangible property and associated rights
and obligations of the practical application of ideas. Applying the statutes,
conventions and common law associated with this area is challenging with
the rapid advancement of technology. No matter what your area of practice
or your level of experience, a solid understanding of what constitutes IP
and quasi property rights is essential in order to advise clients on strategies
to protect and manage their IP assets and avoid infringing others’. This
event will provide you with an opportunity to hone your knowledge on IP
issues and includes the following sessions:
• overview of IP
• how to protect names, data, products and processes
• emerging issues.

Intellectual Property: An overview
Intellectual property differentiates one organisation from another and loss of economic and
attribution rights can have devastating effects. The myriad of intellectual property rights available
to a business or a person are not widely understood or are overlooked. This session will enhance
your understanding of the importance of identifying IP rights in order to advise your clients about
their economic and attribution rights. It also includes legal strategies to protect their rights and
how to avoid infringing third parties’ rights and will answer the following questions:
