A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Just in time for the nice fall weather, our sons have found their rhythm at Jesuit. Freshmen
nametags will soon be no longer needed, sophomores are glad to have someone else walk
around campus with their heads shaven, juniors are enjoying the relative peace of their junior
year, and seniors are balancing their academically challenging curriculum with the completion
of their college applications.
October is packed with many Mothers’ Club events:
We start off the month of October with College Night on October 8th. This event provides
students at Jesuit with a great opportunity to visit with representatives from over 200 different
colleges and universities from all over the United States.
Next is Homecoming weekend scheduled for October 10th - 11th. We highly encourage all
students to attend both the game and the dance. For the mothers, this is a lot of fun as we help
our sons with Homecoming activities such as buying or making mums, making dinner plans, and
taking many pictures.
sS
On October 15th we have one of my favorite events of the year - The Mother/Son Luncheon.
This event is a great time to take pictures and to see how our sons have transformed from little
shaved-head freshmen to young adults. This year we are lucky to have Major Dan Rooney as
our speaker. He is not only a decorated veteran and F-16 Fighter Pilot, but he is also the
founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a non-profit organization that has raised over $22
million dollars in donations for spouses and children of those killed or disabled in their service
to America. Since being founded in 2007, the Folds of Honor Foundation has awarded nearly
4,000 scholarships making Major Dan Rooney the embodiment of a Man for Others.
Last, but not least, the senior mothers will host the first Faculty/Staff Appreciation luncheon on
October 29th and our Mothers’ Club Overnight Retreat is on November 1st and 2nd .
I hope you join us at all Mothers’ Club events in October and the many exciting events
throughout the rest of the school year.
I wish you a Spooktacular Halloween!
All the best,

Strake Jesuit Student Dance Chaperones
The Chaperone Committee provided chaperones for the Orientation Dance on Saturday, August 23rd.
Ten moms and six dads helped that evening. Everyone did a fantastic job and we got to know each
other a little better.
The committee is now preparing for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 11th. We have
enough volunteers for the doors, but we are still short on volunteers for the coat check. If you are
available, please email Liliana Janer at [email protected] or Leslie Farías at [email protected].

time to gather information and visit with the representatives!

Incarnate Word Academy, St. Pius X, Pope John XXIII, St. Thomas, O’Connell and Cristo Rey Jesuit High
Schools.

Auction Kick-off parties are coming up! These festive evenings are a great opportunity to socialize with
other parents, hear about the plans for this year’s event, Carnaval de Jesuit, and of course support the
school by donating items for silent and live auction.
Invitations and information will be mailed to all parents in early October. Parents of freshmen will be
invited to a party on November 8th at the home of Amy and David Novelli. Parents of sophomores,
juniors and seniors will be invited to a party on November 1st at the home of Lisa and Steve Watson.
We hope to see you all there!

families under the Care Team’s support.
Therese Whaley and Gina Sessums (Parent – Teacher Meetings) for providing dinner for faculty and
staff before their parent meetings and providing snacks for parents throughout the evening.
Karen Purvey (Amistad) for hosting a very fun and delicious tailgate party during the St. Thomas
