Correspondence Address Jagadeesha T Assistant Professor Department of Mechanical Engineering National Institute of Technology Calicut NIT Campus P.O., Kozhikode - 673601, Kerala. [email protected] Tel: 04952286451 Department of Mechanical Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering, the largest department in the Institute, offers regular undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programmes. It also offers part time doctoral degree programmes, mainly meant for those employed in industries and academic institutions. It offers a number of continuing education programmes too, for industry personnel. Summer/Winter schools sponsored by the AICTE/ISTE have also been organized by the Department. The faculty provide guest lectures also for many of the neighboring institutions. Besides teaching, the members of the faculty are involved in consultancy work (Design Development, Energy Auditing, Industrial Sickness Evaluation, Testing etc.), sponsored research work (sponsored by DST, AICTE, ARDB etc.), and product development About the Institute National Institute of Technology Calicut is one of the premier technical institutions in India. NITC is set in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, located on the Kozhikode - Mukkam road about 22 km from Kozhikode city. The Institute offers under-graduate, graduate and Ph.D programmes under different departments. FACUL TY DEVELOPMENT ACULTY PROGRAMME ON MODERN PNEUMATICS CONTROL- THEORY & PRACTICE DECEMBER 08-12, 2014 Coordinator Jagadeesha T Sponsored by TEQIP-II/AICTE/MHRD The institute has good infrastructure in computing, information technology, laboratories and central library including digital library. Calicut is a major knowledge Hub of Kerala and is the hometown of institutions of national importance including NITC, IIMK, NIELIT, CWRDM etc. Calicut is connected by direct trains/road/air to all major cities in India. NITC is located about 22 kilometers north-east of Calicut City. Calicut, also known as Kozhikode, is known as the city of spices. Kozhikode beach, Kappad beach where Vasco De Gama landed first, Kadalundy bird sanctuary, Tusharagiri Waterfalls, Pazhassiraja Museum, Tali Temple and Kuttichira Masjid are some of the local attractions. Department of Mechanical Engineering National Institute of Technology Calicut NIT CAMPUS P.O, KOZHIKODE – 673 601, KERALA www.nitc.ac.in Introduction In its present day form of industrial usage, pneumatics is a relatively young progeny of technology, gaining traction in the late 18th century although it had been used in simpler devices for many centuries before that. Modern pneumatics with its versatile scope and possibilities did not really begin to supplement the established techniques and forms of power and energy in industrial processes until the 1950s. It has since evolved into an extensive and successful branch of engineering. A diversified line of pneumatic equipment of a mature engineering standard is already on the market and can be expected to grow further in size and efficiency in the future. Repeated releases of equipment with newer features and newer application areas demonstrate the continuous growth in the field of pneumatics Objectives of the Course The main objective of the program is to expose participants to pneumatic components, circuit diagrams, PLC programs and systems. Educating people to properly use pneumatic power is crucial for the economical use of energy. The three aspects having a vital bearing on the efficient use of pneumatic power are : proper designing of pneumatic circuits, selection of appropriate components for pneumatic system, and good maintenance of a system. This workshop aims to cover the operation and maintenance procedures of pneumatics devices thoroughly. It has been designed to make new user feel at ease while trying to understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the operating principles of pneumatic and electro pneumatic equipment and their control aspects including programmable logic controllers based controls. Course Contents The focus of this short term programme will be to provide information to the participants on aspects of pneumatics engineering so that they can not only be able to develop the same at their institute but also start participating at solving Industrial problems. Following aspects will be dealt with in the course: Preparation, production, treatment and distribution of compressed air. Pneumatics valves and actuators Design of single cylinder circuits using pure pneumatics Design of multi cylinder circuits using pure pneumatics Design of single cylinder circuits using electropneumatics Design of multi cylinder circuits using electro pneumatics Design of single cylinder and multi cylinder circuits using PLC control Logic circuit design K V Mapping methods Intelligent Pneumatics systems Maintenance of Pneumatics systems. Resource Persons The lectures for the programme will be handled by faculty from NITs and other renowned technical institutions in the country. Target Audience The course is open to teachers from AICTE approved Engineering Colleges / Polytechnics, Professionals, Engineers from Govt. and private organisations, with a Degree in the respective field.
