County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW. 029 2087 2087 Secondary Schools Leadership/Management Assistant Headteacher Religious Education, Spirituality and Ethos id:547724 The Governors are seeking to appoint an experienced, ambitious, enthusiastic Catholic teacher to join the Leadership team. This is a new post at the school. It represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Catholic teacher to join the leadership team and to play a lead role in re-establishing St Illtyd’s as a premier learning institution and thriving Catholic community. It combines the need to raise standards in the teaching of academic religious education and the desire to raise the profile of spirituality both within the school and the wider community. The Religious Education Department comprises four teachers. One member of the department currently takes responsibility for organising liturgical events and supplying colleagues with support material for pastoral reflections. RE is delivered to all although outcomes at Key Stage 4 have been in need of improvement for some years. The successful candidate will lead the department to success where the achievement of all our students matches the high expectations across the school. There are currently seven members of the leadership team. All are relatively new in post but share a strong desire to raise standards. We work well as team with all roles and responsibilities clearly defined. St. Illtyd’s has gone through a difficult time of late having been placed in special measures in November 2012. However, with the recent improvement in standards at both Key stage 3 and Key Stage 4 there is an expectation that special measures will be a thing of past when ESTYN visit later this term. The school has been identified as a Challenge Cymru school and consequently is in receipt of extra funding to help sustain rising standards. A strength of the school is the commitment shown by the staff. Everyone here works hard and gives of their time freely for the benefit of our learners. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic but the benefit will come from the support you will get from your colleagues. The vast majority of pupils at St Illtyd’s are a joy to be with. Families are generally supportive of the school and so are the local parishes. If you feel you have the drive, the ambition, the mettle to make a real difference then you are strongly encouraged to apply.
