Sunday Morning Speakers
This morning, we are privileged to have Forrest Smith and
Frank McIlroy speak to us during Bible class and the worship
period regarding the substance abuse program at the Serenity
Ridge Recovery in which they are involved. The following
statements will give you an idea of their backgrounds and
current work.
A native Arkansan, Forrest Smith was born in Little Rock. He has also lived in
Louisiana where he met his wife, Tabitha. They have three children, Mason who
is eight years old, Jackson who is five years old, and little Julianne who is four
years old. Forrest has his undergraduate degree from Harding University in
Bible with an emphasis in missions. He is currently working on his state
certification as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor. His journey as a minister
led him to the congregation in Hot Springs Village, AR. He is currently a
minister at the Clinton Church of Christ. Forrest is living out one of his life’s
dreams of developing a Christian substance abuse program in Clinton.
Frank McIlroy comes from a military family and was born and raised on Air
Force installations in the USA and abroad. He was reared in a loving, Christian
family. His father was from Pocahontas, AR, and his mother from the Delta.
When his father retired from the Air Force, the family moved to Jonesboro, AR.
At the age of 16, Frank took a wrong turn in life. He would live the next few
decades in the deepest, darkest depths of substance addiction. With God’s help
through others, he received treatment for this addiction in 1999. Since that time,
he has been able to live a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle. He states, “In 2009, I
walked back through the door that God had so graciously kept open for me. This
door was through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to His church. What a
journey I have been on! My commission is to spread HIS message and to let
God do the work—for that I am grateful. God bless!”

LAST SUNDAY EVENING:
What a blessing we had last Sunday evening when
the young men of our congregation participated in
the service by reading scriptures and leading
singing! Those taking part were TUCKER
VENABLE, JACKSON BAILEY, WILL ANDREWS,
DREW
MICKEY,
ALEX
ZORSCH,
SAM
ROBERSON, and HUNTER McLAUGHLIN. Our
hearts were touched by these youngsters and the
dads who stood beside them for moral support.
SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN MISSION:
On Tuesday, October 28, our college students have
volunteered to grill hamburgers and wieners for the
residents of the SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN MISSION.
The rest of the congregation is asked to bring the
fixin’s for the meal. Please sign the list on the board
in the FLC as soon as possible if you would be
willing to supply food items.
GOSPEL MEETING:

there will be a “Wild Game Dinner.”
GLEN COLLEY will speak on “Getting the HOME
to HEAVEN” at the CARRIAGE OAKS CHURCH OF
CHRIST, 5661 Shed Rd., Bossier City, LA, on
November 10-11, 7:00 PM.
CHRISTMAS BASKETS:
It is time to begin bringing items for the Christmas
baskets for our shut-ins and placing them in the box
provided in the FLC. We will fill 30 baskets this year.

The Other Cheek
A big sergeant from a Highland
regiment, serving many years
ago in Egypt, was asked about
the
circumstances
of
his
conversion: “What was it that
turned you to Christ?”
He told of a private in his company years before
when he was serving in Malta. The private was
frequently harassed by other soldiers for his
religious faith. One night, the private came into his
barracks quite late. It was a very rainy night.
Before getting into his bunk, he knelt, as was his
custom, to pray.
The sergeant picked up one of his boots, which
was heavy with wet mud, threw it across the room,
and hit the private on the side of the head. The
private said nothing. He wiped the mud from his
face and crawled into bed. The next morning,
however, when the sergeant woke up, he found his
muddy boots cleaned and polished by his bedside.
He said, “It broke my heart.”
Turning the other cheek is not easy. The first
inclination is to strike back, to get even, or to seek
revenge. The route Jesus urges upon us—and
practiced Himself—is the behavior which is more
likely to influence another person for good.
“I say unto you, that ye resist not evil: but
whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn
to him the other also.”
(Matthew 5:39)

“A Spiritual Safe-Haven in a
Troubled World”
Serenity Ridge founders Forrest Smith and
Frank McIlroy have returned this morning to
speak to the Sunday morning Bible study
and auditorium services. Serenity Ridge
Recovery is a ministry of the Clinton Church
of Christ which gives hope to those with
substance abuse disorders. Serenity Ridge
is a spiritual safe-haven in a troubled world
focusing on leading residents to Christ.
Serenity Ridge is in need of donations to
provide
scholarships
for
prospective
participants. Basic needs such as toilet
paper, paper towels, coffee, and other items
used on a daily basis are also needed.

denim at school. Any blue jean type material can
be used—jeans, shirts, jackets, skirts, etc. It
doesn’t matter what size or texture, stained or
holey, they can all be used. If you have denim that
you can donate, please place it in the FLC.
