COMMUNITY EDUCATION FALL 2014 AFTER SCHOOL & ADULT CLASSES STILL TIME TO REGISTER! HAVE YOUR CAKE & DECORATE IT TOO! With a fall theme, kids will have a fun time learning the basics of professional decorating-how to use tips, color icing, and fondant. Participants will use their skills to make adorable fall/holiday creations. All ingredients and baked goods supplied. Instructor Donna Silverstein, Caketastic Creations. 2 different sessions– 3 wks. each A:Mondays, Nov. 3-Nov. 17 3:45-4:45 pm B: Mondays, Dec. 1-Dec. 15 Fee: $60 E101 each session NO MORE LITTER IN OZ (1 class) In this unique puppet show presentation by Mariah Newborne participants learn the message of reducing, reusing, and recycling set to a rockin” 3R rap in an adapted version of the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion, they save Oz from litter. Audience participation & great fun. Thursday, Oct. 23 3:45-4:30 pm Primary School Cafeteria Fee: $5 BRICKS4KIDZ - SUPERHEROS (6 weeks) Join Bricks4Kidz as we build Super Heroes with bricks. Explore all the caped crusaders and discover their super powers. Create a fantasy world and protect it against all the evil arch enemies with custom contraptions made with LEGO® bricks. By investigating natural processes like erosion, animal adaptations, and plant growth, we discover ways that we as engineers can be inspired by the world around us to take on all sorts of challenges. Advanced drawing skills will be introduced along with several different media, such as pastels, paper mache, and clay. [skip 11/25} Tuesdays, Oct. 21—Dec. 16 3:45-4:45 pm Art Room Fee: $110 PIRATES’ QUEST—LEGOS—(6 weeks) Shiver me timbers as we explore the popular culture behind the life of a pirate. Build a MOTORIZED pirate ship, a helm and an anchor as we batten down the hatches and prepare for mutiny. Protect the hands on deck by building a launching catapult. Thursdays Oct. 16-Dec. 11 3:35-4:35 pm Library Fee: $110 VIDEO GAME DESIGN: ELECTRONIC GAME DESIGNRACING GAMES (5 weeks) During the Electronic Game Design Racing classes, students will use Multimedia Fusion 2® to create their own video game. Students design a racetrack, race cars and an environment in which their cars compete. At the end of the class, students take home a copy of the game they create. Are you artistic and good at building things? This course is your chance to use your skills and creativity to be part of the theater experience. The class will put their ideas to practical use by designing the set for the elementary school production to take place on November 20 & 21. Learn about the fundamentals of robotics and then be challenged to build your own working, hydraulic robot. Research, draft, build, and test your robot in a design challenge! All aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) principles in a great class! Instructor Cathleene George is a middle school science teacher. Lori will begin her presentation with a short explanation of her abilities, and continue to discuss how everyone can try to tap into their own psychic powers and achieve spiritual awareness. Lastly, Lori will do a short reading for participants. Come with your questions and leave with answers. In this class Donna Silverstein, owner, Caketastic will show how to make fondant flowers and leaves to decorate your fall desserts. Bring your own baked item to decorate if desired, or practice on waxed paper. She will bring the fondant and other supplies.
