Conference Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to: • Recognize the current social marketing trends of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs to young adults and their impact • Assess the benefits and risks of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool • Evaluate the legislative and educational issues surrounding the prescription opioid misuse problem • Apply the latest strategies for detecting, treating, and managing substance use disorders in their patients • Continue collaboration and mentoring relationships with professional colleagues AMERSA’s Mission AMERSA, founded in 1976, is an organization whose mission is to improve health and well-being through interdisciplinary leadership in substance use education, research, clinical care and policy. Currently, there is one AMERSA Task Force: Physician Education Task Force. All meeting participants are invited to attend this task force on Thursday 11:30am-1:00pm. AMERSA members who wish to start a new task force should contact the Executive Director of AMERSA. Special Interest Groups Special Interest Groups, less structured than task forces, provide an opportunity for attendees to have a focused discussions on various topics. Currently, there are two AMERSA Special Interest Groups - the Nursing Initiative Interest Group and the Social Work Initiative Interest Group. All meeting participants are invited to attend these interest groups on Thursday 11:30am-1:00pm. AMERSA members who wish to start a new interest group should contact the Executive Director of AMERSA. One-on-One Mentoring One-on-one mentoring sessions are an opportunity for attendees to meet with national leaders in the field of substance use. The mentoring can focus on career development and/or research, teaching, and related issues. If you would like to schedule time to meet with a mentor, please stop by the registration desk. A list of this year’s mentors and areas of interest is included in your registration packet. Physician Continuing Medical Education Credits Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse. The Warren Alpert Medical School is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation: The Warren Alpert Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
