Welcome Visitors

service.

programs running

Please speak to a

details.
Hi Church,
We are in the midst of working through some of the Psalms at the moment; they
can often be thought of in terms of the songs of the Bible, many of them written
by David and many of them giving us words that readily become part of the praise
songs we sing. The reality is that many of the psalms are the expression to God of
dismay and injustice, of discouragement with life, of being depressed about the
way things are. That’s where we find ourselves this week, and it is good for us to
be there, because one of the inescapable realities of life for the believer and nonbeliever is that it can often be a discouraging experience and sometimes can lead
us to living with the dark clouds of depression as well. Times where we feel very
much off balance, constantly ill at ease, overtaken by events and circumstances,
wondering where did the joy go?
The Bible doesn’t shy away from this reality, and as Christians we don’t help
ourselves if we try and pretend that everything is all good all the time and
because we have Jesus discouragement and depression doesn’t need to affect us.
What the Bible does reiterate to us over and over again is that God is there with
us through all parts of life: the good times and the depressing times too. Randy
Alcorn (a Christian author who battled depression) says: ‘Don’t wait till the
depression passes to seek God. He’s not waiting for you to come out of it before
walking with you, but he’s eager to walk with you in the midst of it.’ As we look
at Psalm 42 & 43 together this week, we find them saying to us that some hope
can come as we speak to God and preach to ourselves. Let’s encourage each
other together in that.
Dave Gillett.
