NHS ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM SCREENING
This simple scan is available free of charge and
is offered to men in their 65th year. An
abdominal aortic aneurysm can occur if the
wall of your aorta (the main blood vessel that
supplies blood to your body) gets weak and
starts to expand. The condition can be serious.
Screening can help to find an aneurysm early so
that it can be monitored and or treated. If you
receive an invitation to a screening please
attend. If you are over 65 and have not been
screened visit, or email.
[email protected] or contact your local
screening programme on 01227 868775.

Doctors Paul and Yvonne Davis are retiring on December 7th.
We are therefore very fortunate to welcome
Dr Sahota and Dr Bhanot who join us on December 8th 2014.
Dr Mandeep Sahota qualified at Guys & St Thomas' Medical School
in 1998. She finished her GP training in 2002 and since then has
always worked in the local area of Gravesend & Dartford.
Dr Sahota's main interests lie in family planning, antenatal care and
child health surveillance.
Dr Sahota will work on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Fridays including the Family Planning Clinic at
Longfield on Tuesday afternoons.
Dr Krishan Bhanot trained at University College London Medical
School, qualifying in 2004. He worked for several years as a
Hospital Medical Doctor, working in a variety of specialties
including Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Diabetes and Accident
& Emergency. In 2008 he began his specialty GP training also at
University College London Hospital gaining experience in
Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Dr Bhanot then worked in various medical practices as well as
spending some time at Woolwich Royal Artillery Barracks for the
Ministry of Defence. Dr Bhanot grew up locally and lives close by
with his wife and two young sons.
He will work at both Surgeries alternating
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

New Ash Green and Hartley
now both have defibrillators.
Located at Hartley Village Hall Porch, on Ash Road
Hartley Kent
New Ash Green at Village Association Office,
on Centre Road New Ash Green Kent
Every year in the UK some 60,000 people suffer cardiac arrest away
from a hospital – but only 7% survive. Early use of a defibrillator
can raise that to 70%. A grant of £9,350 from the Big Lottery Fund
to Sevenoaks District Seniors Action Forum has paid for Public
Access Defibrillators (PADs) to be available 24/7 in public locations
to help save victims of cardiac arrest. A defibrillator delivers an
electric shock designed to get the victim's heart back into proper
rhythm, as in the recently highlighted case of footballer Fabrice
Muamba.
The portable, battery-powered PAD is automated. It talks you
through what to do, rather like a car satnav, so no formal training
is required and anyone can use it. What’s more, it monitors the
person’s heart and will only deliver a shock if it detects that
the heart is not working. So there is no risk of giving a shock to
someone who does not need one.
With the support of the Village Association and local councillors,
one of the defibrillators has now been installed in New Ash Green
beside the Village Association office entrance in Centre Road. It is
readily accessible at any time by car or on foot.
Do this as quickly as possible, then continue with CPR until advised
to stop by the defibrillator. On the next page are the steps you
need to take in the case of Cardiac Arrest.

Cardiac
Arrest
If you suspect someone has had a cardiac
arrest, do not delay!
Every second counts towards securing a
complete recovery.
•
Check their breathing.
•
Start CPR.
•
Dial 999 for an ambulance.
•
Send someone else to get the defibrillator but keep CPR going.
•
When the defibrillator arrives, open the box and follow the
spoken instructions.
•
Continue with CPR until the defibrillator is attached to the
patient.
•
Follow the instructions from the defibrillator.
•
If a shock is needed, the defibrillator will tell you to press the
button to deliver one.
PPG Patient Survey
Update
Following the excellent response to the Patient Survey, as
reported previously, discussions are taking place about options for
action to address key findings. Some actions have already taken
place to make more appointments available and to improve the
continuity of care for vulnerable patients. Other issues are under
review pending the arrival of the new doctors as well as the new
practice manager having settled in, so this is a work in progress
and will be reported in subsequent newsletters.

helping yourself.
Beating Bowel Cancer
All patients between 60 and 75 will either have
received, or will receive, a Bowel Cancer Screening Test. These
are sent out every 2 years. While from personal experience we
know they are not particularly pleasant to do, it is important
that you do the tests and return them in the envelope provided.
They are proven to detect bowel cancer in the early stages so
that effective action can be taken before it reaches an
advanced stage.
We do not have local figures on take-up rates but nationally it
is causing concern, so please do the tests when you receive
the package. This is in your own best interest.
Welcome back
Mrs Alison Airey is the new Practice
Manager – well not so ‘new’ really as she worked
here before between 2008 and 2010!
Alison has come back to us from a Medway
practice where she was Practice Manager for two
years. Prior to that she worked for a while at
West Kent Primary Care Trust. Altogether she has
10 years’ experience working as a Practice
Manager. She is very pleased to be back at
Jubilee once again and is looking forward to
supporting the practice and its patients.
