ACT National Test Date
Chorale to Perform with Louisville Orchestra – October 17th
The Eastern Chorale is one of four JCPS Choirs invited to perform Carl Orff's epic work, Carmina Burana
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD3VsesSBsw), with the Louisville Orchestra and the University of Louisville
Collegiate Chorale. Those of you that are U of L fans will recognize it as the music they play at the start of Cardinal
Football games.
This is particularly exciting because of the Louisville Orchestra's new music director, Teddy Abrams. At the age of 27, he's
taken our city by storm and continues to draw national attention. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkVztOae8nM)
Mr. Abrams was at Eastern on October 9th to work with Chorale (during their regularly scheduled class time).
Over 300 singers will join the Louisville Orchestra for two performances on October 16-17. The show on October 17 is
at 8:00 pm. Please consider joining us! For ticket information: http://www.kentuckycenter.org/BoxOffice

Your PTSA Needs a Treasurer!
Our Treasurer has had to step down, and a replacement is needed ASAP. The Treasurer position is mandated by the
PTSA bylaws; there can be NO PTSA without a Treasurer. That means no sponsor for the Academic Awards and PTSA
Scholarships. That means no hospitality for Open Houses and other school events. That means no extra funding to
support the academic departments, student organizations, and events like Project Graduation. The Treasurer position
need not be a difficult one– if you can balance a checkbook, have time to visit school and the bank one or more times
each week, and can track spending categories against an already existing budget, you can do this job. If you’d like more
information (no commitment), please contact Skip Hahnert at 494-1897 or [email protected]. PLEASE – we need
you!
Reflections Art Program - Final Reminder
All entries for the PTSA Reflections Art Program must be turned in by Friday October 17. They may be turned in at the
Campus Store at lunch up until that date. Thanks in advance to all who are participating!!

Kudos
Congratulations to Andrew Parker, who will receive a YMCA Youth Character Award on October 23rd.
Dress Code for Dances
Our staff is happy to volunteer personal time to provide activities such as the dances students enjoy so much. However,
in recent years the length of some of the female students’ skirts have continued to climb, making it very difficult to
monitor our ticket lines of students coming into the dance as we deal with dress code. In light of this, we are clarifying
the dress code for the events and need your help in making sure in advance that clothing is appropriate:




Dresses must be no more than 1 inch above the top of the kneecap (measurement will be taken at the
end line of the main fabric of the dress, not at the end of any sheer material enhancing the dress)
Slits must be no more than 1 inch above the top of the kneecap
Dresses must be complete with no cut outs or sheer material that expose the stomach or sides
Dresses must not have plunging necklines or backs that are cut out below the natural waist
Attire for those not wearing dresses, must include:





Collared or Tuxedo Shirt
Tie
Dress Pants
Dress Shoes
Suit or Tuxedo Jacket
Students will not be allowed to wear jeans, tennis shoes, or baseball caps.
Students must be dressed appropriately to be admitted and must remain in dress code for the duration of
the event. Ticket prices will not be refunded if a student is not dressed appropriately and has to be turned
away or removed from the event.
We realize that many of the local retailers provide a large selection of evening and party dresses, but our events are not
“club events” or “private party” events. They are for high school age students. We appreciate in advance your assistance
in ensuring students are dressed appropriately for these events.
