CEFL season winners honoured
THE organising committee of the
Companies and Establishments
Football League (CEFL) hosted
the season closing ceremony at
Diplomat Hotel under the patronage of
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports
second vice-chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee honorary president Shaikh
Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
The event was attended by HM the
King’s Advisor for youth and sports affairs Saleh bin Hindi and a number of
officials from the sponsors.
The CEFL season saw seven teams
take part, with two teams for the first
time in its history – Yousif bin Ahmed
Kanoo and Tatweer.
Al Zayani Investments won the league
and cup titles for the first time.
CEFL organising committee chairman Mazin Al Omran thanked Shaikh
Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa for patronising
the closing ceremony and all companies
and establishments for their support. He
also praised sponsors Chevron Bahrain
n The winning team members with officials and guests at the closing ceremony
for their support and GPIC for sponsoring the best team of the season prize.
Shaikh Isa bin Rashid presented the
winning teams with the trophies. Bapco
finished second and Alba third. Yousif
bin Ahmed Kanoo won the best team of
the season award and Al Zayani Investments team player Ahmed Yousif the top
scorer prize with six goals.
Faisal battles into
last four
INDIA’S No. 4 Faisal Khan
survived a scare before entering the semi-finals of
the Indian Club Centenary
Snooker Tournament at the
club premises in Gudaibiya.
The Indian national team
player faced stiff resistance from
Esham Saqer, who won the first
and a close third frames. But
Khan showed his class when it
mattered the most and reeled of
the last three frames to win the
match 4-2 (11-74, 74-16, 46-59,
65-15, 61-32, 62-34).
In another quarter-final, held
last night, Habib Subah beat
Zohair Ebrahim 4-3 to reach
the semis.
Earlier on Sunday night, Afghanistan No. 1 Mohammed
Saleh became the first player

to enter the last four with an
emphatic 4-0 (93-0, 67-5, 790, 59-24) victory over Majid
Dhaif and book a
place in the semi-final.
Matches continue
tonight at 7pm and
9pm and the grand final is set
for tomorrow at 8pm.
Indian billiards and snooker
legend Arvind Savur is being
specially flown in from Bangalore to be the guest of honour at
the final.
The total prize money is
BD1,400 with the winner getting BD700 and runner-up
BD400. There is also a special
prize of BD147 for the highest
break.
The present highest break is
105, the only century break so
far in the tournament, compiled
by Saleh.
Trans Auto Rental are the title sponsors of the tournament.
New Millennium teams excel Indian Club B move
into quarter-finals
n New Millennium School team members with officials
NEW Millennium School-DPS lifted the table
tennis titles in the CBSE Cluster (Bahrain Chapter) Inter-School Championship held at NMSDPS campus.
NMS–DPS teams were winners in the under-14 boys, under-16 boys and second runners-up in the under-19 boys category.
All CBSE schools in the kingdom participated
in this annual event.
Chairman Dr Ravi Pillai, managing director
Geetha Pillai and principal Arun Kuumar Sharma
congratulated the students, parents and coach Deep-
ak Singh Bisht for their commendable performance.

Under – 14 boys:
Winners : NMS-DPS Team (Jas Gajaria, Rushil Mathur,
Feroz Hassan, Siddharth M).
Under–16 boys:
Winners : NMS-DPS Team (Yash Parikh, Karam Gursahani, Aniketh Das Roy).
Under–19 boys:
Third runners-up: NMS-DPS Team (Jay Parikh, Arslan
Baig, Patanjali KV, Moksha Pachisia).
Individual champion: Yash Parikh (under-16 boys).
INDIAN Club ‘B’ and
BCC ‘A’ completed the
quarter-final cast in
the Indian Club Seven-a-side
Centenary Cup Cricket Tournament.
Indian Club ‘B’ beat BOC
by five wickets and BCC ‘A’
had to work a lot harder to get
better of Indian Club ‘A’ by
two wickets.
Batting first, Indian Club
‘A’ were bowled out for 34
runs in six overs with Charan
top scoring with a 13-ball 21.
But it was not good enough
as BCC reached the target
for the loss of four wickets
and with three balls to spare.
BCC’s Kasim was declared
man-of-the-match.
In the last pre-quarter-final
clash, Ajay Kumar (15, balls)
and Nishant (13 not out) were
the stars as Indian Club ‘B’
successfully chased the target of 41 for the loss of one
wicket and five balls to spare.
Dharmesh contributed nine
runs.
Earlier, BOC were all out
for 40 in their six overs with
Ubaid (22, 15 balls) being
the top scorer. Ajay Kumar
was declared the man-of-thematch.

Riffa Star
PAK ROYALS scored
a thrilling four-wicket
victory over Riffa Star in
the Cricket Bahrain (BCL-CBA
Division) Diamond League
T20 Tournament.
Batting first, Riffa Star put
up a challenging 154 for seven
with Omer making a fine 77.
Raees claimed three wickets for
27 runs for Pak Royals.
In reply, Pak Royals chased
the target successfully for the
loss of six wickets and with two
balls to spare. Rasika (48) and
Usman (46*) were the main
scorers while Shahid picked up
two wickets for 35 runs.

BKS international
club badminton
championship set
THE BKS Optima International Club Badminton
Championship (BICC 2014)
begins today at the Bahrain Keralyeea Samajam (BKS) Diamond
Jubilee Hall premises in Segaiya.
The championship, which
will be held in association with
the Bahrain Badminton and
Squash Federation (BB&SF),
concludes on Friday.
BKS is organising a team
event this year and it’s played
in the Sudirman Cup format,
which consist of five matches
– men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s
doubles and mixed doubles.
Teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and Bahrain will participate in the four-day event. The
Bahrain Badminton Academy
team consists of Arab champion Jaffer Ebrahim, Heri Setiwan and Mohammed Munawar.
The other teams are Djarum
Badminton Club and Garuda
Badminton Club from Indonesia and One Adademy Badminton from Malaysia.
Today’s inaugural function
starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by the matches.
The total prize money for the
tournament is $6,000.
Optima Bahrain is the title
sponsor and co-sponsors are
Viva Bahrain, UAE Exchange,
Mohammad Fakhroo and Al
Mahroos. Other sponsors are
