This provides for the educational, cultural, sporting
activities and social activities, prizes and sundry
expenses on behalf of the students as approved
by the Board of Trustees. Donations are as follows
(including GST):

Appointments
Out of school appointments should be made
outside school hours. If this is not possible, and the
appointment takes place during class time, the student
must present a note, or dentist’s card, at the College
Office before signing out to leave the school grounds,
and must sign in at the Office on their return.
Attendance
The College is responsible for all students while they
are at school, therefore their whereabouts must be
known from 8:45 am to 3:10 pm. Parents can ring the
Attendance Officer on extension 828 and register an
absence on the day. If it is known in advance that
a student will be absent for a few days, the College
should be notified. Requests for longer term absences
must be discussed with the Principal.
A Truancy Officer is employed by the College to liaise
with families over attendance matters. Details about
absences must be recorded with the teacher if an
assessment is held on that day.

Elective Parent Charges
Fees may be charged for any materials that a student
will keep, consume or take home. These fees must be
paid to receive or partake in an activity and must be
paid within Term 1 to ensure a student can remain in
that course.
Money can be paid by automatic payment or EFTPOS.
The cashier is available from 8am to 4pm each day.
Illness
Those students who feel ill must report to the College
Office. They must not in any circumstances go home
without first reporting to the Office, as it is possible
a seriously ill student may be in need of assistance
without either the school or the parents becoming
aware of it.
Please ensure that a second contact name and phone
number is available on the College database to allow
us to contact an adult during the school day if your
student is sick.
We do not allow students to remain in our sickbay for
extended periods during the day.
Students must obey the rode code when using a
bicycle or motor vehicle to and from school.
During the day students are NOT permitted to leave
the school grounds. Students will NOT be issued with a
lunch pass. No student will be permitted to go to the
shops, they need to use the school canteen or have a
lunch with them.
Students are expected to go straight home after
school and not loiter in streets or around shops.
Contacting Students During
School Hours
This is discouraged as it is not always convenient to the
office and teaching staff. Due to safety considerations
parents / caregivers and others must report to the
school office on arrival in the school grounds. Under
no circumstances can we have the public wandering
through the school.
Leaving the Grounds
Dropping Students off at
School
DO NOT drop students off in the main car park. This is
a very congested and busy area. Plan a route to the
college that allows you to drop your child off on the
college side of Maunganui Road.

Students are under the control of the College from
the time they set out for school in the morning until
they arrive home in the afternoon. This is important,
and it explains why the College is vitally concerned
with matters of dress, behaviour and rules of the road.

Mount Maunganui College aims to meet the learning needs of students who have been identified as having the
potential for outsdtanding achievement in areas such as:
•Academic Achievement eg mathematics, writing, languages, sciences, social sciences
•Arts eg design

Note: Students with exceptional ability in sports or performing arts will be assessed separately by the College.
We invite parents / caregivers who believe their child to be gifted or talented in any of the above areas, to
register their child (see below) so that further information can be collated.
The College GATE Facilitator works with Year 8 teachers at our contributing schools to best identify gifted and
talented students. A range of data will be collated for each student, including test results, parent and student
questionnaires, samples of work, and teacher observation.

ELITE PERFORMING ARTS
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST 2015
This course challenges students to share their talents in drama, dance, music and singing in a class dedicated to
performance. Students will work together to produce musical theatre pieces. They will be trained in stage use,
performative technique, direction, and production elements. In 2015 Mount Maunganui College will run a Year
9 Performing Arts option class of talented students in the areas of Drama, Dance, and Singing. Entrance is by
way of an audition that will be held at the college in Term 4. Please complete the following application if you are

What Is Sports Performance?
The Mount Maunganui College Institute of Sports Performance aims to build all-round successful people, not just
successful athletes. This is evident by a high percentage of Senior Leadership positions being filled by Sports
Performance students. In 2015 we will continue to develop our relationships with The Millennium Institute of Sport
(Auckland), the Avanti Velodrome (Cambridge) and the adventure park at Lakes Ranch (Rotorua). Performance
testing and Sports Science workshops will continue to be a prominent aspect of the Institute moving into the
future. Students will set fitness goals and sporting achievement goals and will work towards these goals over the
year.
How Do I Become Part Of It?
MOUNT MAUNGANUI COLLEGE PROSPECTUS 2015
The Sports Performance teachers will visit contributing schools in Term 3 to speak to interested students. The
students will receive this information form you are reading and fill in the application form, which is to be completed
and sent back to Mount Maunganui College. These teachers will also speak to staff at the contributing schools
to assist in talent identification of suitable students. Students will be selected to visit the college to undertake a
series of practical activities and testing. Following these processes, students will then be selected into the course.

How Do The Classes Work?
The class moves around all core subjects as a group and the philosophies of the Institute flow through all subjects.
In Physical Education, there are three classes per week, one theory lesson and two practical lessons. Students are
exposed to higher level PE concepts in the classroom and advanced skill learning and fitness training. Very high
expectations are placed on class members by the Teacher in Charge and also the core subject teachers.
Behavioural Expectations
Membership of the Sports Performance Institute is a privilege and carries responsibilities in training and performing
within sporting codes as well as maintaining academic learning. Behaviour in and around school will have a bearing
on continuation within the Sports Performance Institute. All students will be expected to behave with maturity
and responsibility, display a positive attitude towards all aspects of their programme and towards school life in
general. Performance, achievement and behaviour will be evaluated at the end of each year. This evaluation will be
used to determine continued selection for the following year’s Institute programme.

Practical Testing Day
DATE TO BE CONFIRMED - 9:30am to 1:30pm
Students are to meet outside the College gymnasium (Macville Park end) at 9:15am.
Students will require a water bottle, suitable clothing for fitness testing and games, as well as lunch. There will
be two pickup and drop off points only due to staffing and vehicle availability. Pickup points will be Tahatai Coast
School front carpark at 8:45am and Mount Maunganui Intermediate at 9am. For students requiring transport to
and from other schools you will need to organise your own transport. Drop off will occur once testing is complete
(approximately 1:45pm to 2pm).

Use of the school’s IPad and Internet is a privilege not a right. If I abuse that privilege, I expect to lose it.

I will follow all teacher directions and established procedures when IPads are being used. This includes
carrying the IPad properly and not eating/drinking when using the IPad.
3.
I will use the school IPad and Internet for the purpose of education and for working on approved school
assignments only. I understand that using the IPad for personal use is not permitted.
4.
I will not use the IPad to listen to music unless it is part of an assigned project. I will not import music into
the IPad unless directed to by a teacher for use in an educational project. I will abide by all copyright laws
when doing this for an educational project.
5.
I will only use the school IPad and Internet if there are teachers present supervising me. I understand that
unsupervised use is not permitted.
6.
I will use the school IPad (software and hardware) and the Internet appropriately. I will handle all equipment
with care and will not attempt to damage any software or hardware.
7.
I will never give out my full name, my home address or telephone number, or my school name, address or
telephone number, to anyone else online without my school’s permission.
8.
I will not hide things that I am doing on the IPad (online or offline) from my teachers.
9.
If I have a technical problem with the IPad or the Internet, I will inform my teachers and ask for their help.
10.
I understand that I am not responsible for what other people say and do on the Internet; therefore, if
someone else online says or does something offensive or disturbing, or if I see images on a website that
make me feel upset or disturbed in any way, I will tell my teacher. I will not respond to any messages that
make me feel upset, angry or scared. I will not share the offensive or disturbing thing with other students.

ACCEPTABLE INTERNET USE
POLICY
Please read both sides of this document carefully before signing and returning to the main office.
Internet access is available to students and teachers at Mount Maunganui College. The Internet offers vast
and diverse resources to both students and staff. This service to teachers and students will help to promote
educational excellence in our school by facilitating resource sharing, communication, and skills in finding and using
information and innovative teaching programs. The Internet is an electronic highway connecting thousands of
computers worldwide and millions of individual users.
Students and staff have access to:

Electronic mail communication with people all over the world.
2.
Information and news from government sources, research institutions, and other sources.
3.

Access to computers and people all over the world also allows for the availability of material that may not be
considered to be of educational value in the context of a school setting. On a global network it is impossible
to control all materials, and an industrious user may discover controversial information. We (Mount Maunganui
College) firmly believe that the valuable information and interaction available on this worldwide network far
outweigh the possibility that users may access material that is not consistent with the learning outcomes of the
curriculum. Life is a series of choices and consequences. Mount Maunganui College has chosen to make Internet
resources available to students, and the consequence is that they will have access to enormous amounts of
information. If a student chooses to use these resources for finding information that will be of assistance in
learning, the consequence will be continued access to the Internet. If a student chooses to access resources
that are objectionable, adult-oriented, or restricted, the consequence will be suspension or termination of access
privileges. The signatures at the end of this document indicate each party who signed has read the terms and
conditions and understands their significance.

1.
Acceptable Use - The original purpose of the Internet was, and largely still is, to support research and
education in and among academic institutions all over the world by providing access to unique resources
and the opportunity for collaborative work. The use of school computers must support education and
research that is consistent with the learning outcomes of the curriculum. Use of another organisation’s
network or computing resources must comply with the rules appropriate for that network. Transmission of
any material in violation of any NZ regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, copyrighted
material, threatening or obscene material or material protected by trade secret.
2.
Network Etiquette - Users are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette.
These include (but are not limited to) the following:

Be polite. Do not get abusive in your messages to others

People who operate the system do have access to all aspects of the network. Messages relating to

From time to time, Mount Maunganui College system administrators will make determinations on
whether specific uses of the network are consistent with the acceptable use practice.
3.
Mount Maunganui College specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information
obtained through the Internet. Information (including text, graphics, video, etc.) from Internet sources used
in student assignments and reports should be cited the same as references to printed materials. (See handout
acknowledging your sources.)
4.
Security - Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the system involves many
users. If you feel you can identify a security problem on the Internet, you must notify the System
Administrator or the Principal. Do not demonstrate the problem to other users. Users shall not intentionally
seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files, other data, or passwords belonging to other users,
or misrepresent other users on the network. Attempts to gain unauthorised access to system programs or
computer equipment will result in cancellation of user privileges. Downloading of information must be first
approved by the teacher in charge once students have been advised that this process is allowed. Any user
identified as a security risk or having a history of problems with other computer systems may be denied
access to school computers.
5.
Vandalism - Vandalism will result in cancellation of privileges as well as other consequences. Vandalism is
defined as any malicious attempt to harm, modify, or destroy computer hardware, data of another user,
Internet, or any of the other networks that are connected to the Internet backbone. This includes, but is
not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses.
6.
Inappropriate Use - Mount Maunganui College teachers and The Board of Trustees through the Principal will
deem what is inappropriate use. The Principal may request the suspension or termination of computer use
of any user who violates these acceptable use practices.
Email/Moodle and Passwords
All students have an email address at the college. Your Email address will be based on your first name and your
surname (all lowercase and no space between)
….so student John Smith would have the email address :

Passwords are generated by the school database and cannot be changed. All students should know their password.
This login and password is also used for Moodle.
