PROGRAM SCHEDULE OUR SPECIALISTS SARAH SUTHERLAND n Contemporary Originally from Vancouver Island, Sarah began her training at Pacific Dance Centre, Victoria Arts Collaborative and Lynda Raino Dance Studios. She went on to receive her BFA in Dance (Honours) from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Upon graduation, she worked one year aboard Holland America Lines before moving to London, England. She spent the next five years performing and teaching throughout the UK in various genres including contemporary dance, opera, physical theatre, film and children’s dance theatre. Sarah returned to her native BC in 2004, where she co-founded CollabArt Creations, a contemporary dance company focused on collaborating with artists of various disciplines. In 2010, Sarah had the honour of being part of the choreographic team for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics. Now a mother of two, Sarah lives on idyllic Bowen Island and continues to be an active member of the vibrant Vancouver dance community as a choreographer, teacher and performer. Sarah is thrilled to come back to her roots and to share her passion and experience with the students at DanceWorks 2013! JUDY RUSSELL n Ballet & Jazz Since 1983 Judy Russell has been the owner of Enchainement Productions Inc. boasting five beautiful studios and a large dance supply shop. With a RAD Teachers Program Certificate she has trained highly successful ballet students up to the prestigious Solo Seal examination. Her formal Royal Academy of Dance training came from well-known teachers Josephine Slater and Ellen Andrews of Canadian Dance World. She also learned from Lynette Kelly, mother Bunny Murray (a career RAD ballet teacher since the mid-fifties) and father, choral and musical theatre conductor, Alex Murray. In 1992 Judy received the prestigious “Canada 125 Medal” for tireless work with people of all ages in her community. She was “Business Person of Year” in 2002 through the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, and was again honoured by her community by being inducted into the “Art Gallery of Honor for Performing Arts” by the Prince George Community Arts Council in 2007. Judy served on the Board of Governors for Emily Carr School of Art and Design and was the Chair of the BC Performing Arts Festival Host Committee in 2006. Judy has enjoyed a decade of adjudication for a variety of festivals in western Canada. A woman of diverse talents, her single most important attribute is her ability to teach and inspire performers of all ages. KELSEY CHACE n Musical Theatre, Tap & Street Kelsey is one of Vancouver’s most exciting and energetic dancers. She began dancing at the age of three and has not stopped since. Her passion for teaching, choreographing and performing has and continues to take her all over the world. She has lived, trained and worked in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and of course Vancouver where she currently resides. Some of her television and film credits include The L Word, Another Cinderella Story, Fantastic Four 2, Chicago, Dudley DoRight, Just Deal. Some of her stage credits include Cabaret, Chicago, and Oliver, as well as the Parolympics 2010, Fefe Dobson, Gemini Awards Show, Canadian Forces Show Tours with Lisa Brokop, Farmers Daughters and two seasons with Toronto’s “Helix Dance Project”. When Kelsey is not performing she is sharing her love of dance through teaching. She is a faculty member for Groove Street Productions dance convention, Rocky Mountain Dance Project and Harbour Dance Center. She feels very blessed to be able to do what she loves.
