Certificate (9 credits)
The 9-credit Introduction to Psychology
certificate will prepare you for an entry-level
position with a human services organization.
Certificate holders may work for agencies
providing services to persons with physical,
emotional, or mental disabilities. They may
pursue employment in a variety of settings
including rehabilitation centers, drug and alcohol
programs, community mental health programs,
intellectual disability programs, corrections
systems, and hospitals.
Certificate programs are ideal for people who want
a short-term academic credential. A credit
certificate program can be the gateway to a college
degree. Start by completing the credit courses and
earning the certificate, and then apply those
courses toward a degree.

beginning Spring 2015.

Introduction to Psychology Certificate
The three courses in this program are delivered
online and will provide a strong foundation for
working in a variety of human services settings.
Should you want to advance your career
further, the credits you earn may be used
toward the Penn State course requirements for a
baccalaureate degree in Rehabilitation and
Human Services offered at the Penn State
Wilkes-Barre campus.

credits) Introduction to general psychology;
principles of human behavior and their
applications.
PSYCH 212 Introduction to Developmental
Psychology (3 credits) Developmental
principles; physical growth; linguistic,
intellectual, emotional, and social development
from infancy to maturity.
PSYCH 270 Introduction to Abnormal
Psychology (3 credits) Overview of
assessment, causes, and treatments of
psychological disorders.

Admission to Certificate Program
All courses are open to high-school graduates
and to those who have earned a GED. There are
no prerequisite courses. No formal application to
Penn State is required, but those interested in
enrolling must complete a non-degree form,
available by going to http://

nondegree_form.cfm.

Location
Courses will delivered online through Penn State
Wilkes-Barre in Lehman and the Northern Tier
Center in Towanda. The courses will be delivered via
Angel, Penn State's online course management
system. Registered students will need an active Penn
State Access Account to complete the courses, which
can be attained by visiting the Continuing Education
department at either location.
