Staff/Students
I have been approached by a local company, Hart Biologicals in Hartlepool, who are seeking our
help. Hart Biological is a small company, but they are world leaders in their field.
They are engaged in the research, development, manufacture, and marketing of a range of "invitro" diagnostic products for use in the detection, prevention, and monitoring of a number of
medical conditions related to haemostasis and platelet function. In other words, their work is
vital to the control of haemophilia, a condition that prevents blood from clotting. However,
every day, patients need blood transfusions, and clotting agents to help with the healing
process following operations or accident trauma. These products are needed, for example, to
help wounded soldiers injured in battlefield surgeries.
Hart Biological need blood to continue their important research. They are asking if staff and
students will volunteer to give blood for this purpose. It will be taken by qualified nurses and in
small quantities only 90ml – they do not take as much blood as the transfusion service, for
example.
In order to volunteer, you must be 17 or older and there is a permission form which will need
to be completed. If you are interested in participating in this scheme, please let me know and I
will be in touch with further details.
Best wishes
Rick
