Edmund was the second youngest of 11 children in his family. Edmund Barton was the first PM for Australia. They celebrated at a grand ceremony on the same day. Australian Federation was an agreement by the existing British colonies promising to work together under the Australian constitution as one nation. Australian Federation started January 1st 1901. He started Primary school in 1867. In 1872 he started to work as a miner. He was only 12 years old and he had to work for 12 hours 6 days a week. Andrew went to school at night.
