By Max J. Setting In Hunger Games, settings take place in different and similar locations. The setting at the very beginning of the story takes place in the woods. There are lots of trees and animals teeming in the woods. This is how I imagine the woods to be in District Twelve. A similar setting to the woods is the Hunger Games arena. This is also set in the woods but has more rivers and lakes. This setting also seemed to have more climbable trees. In the center of the arena there are lots of recourses like backpacks, sleeping bags and weapons. This is what I imagine the Arena to look like. Other settings in Hunger Games include the town, the capital and the train. The town in district twelve may be in the future but is very poor and lots of people starve their. The capital and the train are both very fancy. The train can move at 250 miles per hour. That will get them to the capital in a day. The capital is filled with very weird and colorful people. Characters Katniss is shy woman that likes to keep to her-self. She has worked very hard throughout her life support her family. She is extremely good with the bow and arrow. When she goes to the capitol, she starts to have a lot of stress and anger, especially against Haymitch. This is because that if Haymitch does not help her with winning the games, she might die. She is the protagonist and the main character. She is Dynamic because she Pretends to fall in love with Peeta. This overall gets her more sponsors. Peeta probably would‘ve died without Katniss Because Katniss also protected him. That is what type of character she is. This is Katniss from Hunger Games. Haymitch is a Dynamic character but a minor character. This is because he helps Peeta and Katniss survive. He is also a protagonist. That’s what type of character Haymitch is in the Hunger Games. Haymitch is a wrecked older man from drinking alcohol. He has once won the games and is supposed to Katniss’s and Peeta’s mentor. Haymitch has been known to be very lazy and doesn’t do much except for dinking alcohol. When teaching his students, rather than teaching them about fighting, (He does a little) he tries to teach them about getting sponsors. This is how I imagine Haymitch too Look like. Peeta is a strong but hopeless man. When he is chosen as a tribute, he loses all hope for surviving. His main skill is camouflaging or decorating things. Peeta is major, protagonist, and a dynamic character. Peeta has helped Katniss survive by entertaining the audience with his love for Katniss. Although he did not actually know that Katniss didn’t really love him. This overall helped a lot in getting sponsors. That’s what Peeta has done in the Hunger Games. This is what I think Peeta looks like. Effie Trinket is a woman who announces who will be the tributes for district 12 every year. She always has very crazy hair and colorful clothing. Effie is always very concerned about table manners. This is what Ellie looks like. Ellie is a major but a static character because she picks prim as a tribute. When that happens Katniss volunteers to be tribute. She is kind of like a antagonist because of what she did, but she doesn’t do much else to harm Katniss. Later on she actually tries a little to actually help Katniss. She helped Katniss get more sponsers by showing her how to smile, walk and basically look good. Prim is a small blond haired twelve year old. She enjoys making food and herbs with her mother. Through the begging of the story she is constantly worried about being picked as a tribute. This is what I imagine Prim to look like. Prim is a minor and static character. This is because you don’t really see her except for the beginning of the story. Katniss might be dreaming or thinking about her later in the story, but other than that you don’t really see her. The only effect on the story that she really had was getting Katniss into the Hunger Games arena. She is also a protaginist. Plot When Prim is picked to be tribute, Katniss rush’s to her aid. Then Katniss volunteers to be a tribute and fight in the games. After that Katniss is trained with many other tributes for a big fight. Later on is when she is goes into the Hunger Games and that’s when the climax starts. Once Katniss is in the arena, she gets into multiple fights. Right at the beginning, (in the arena) a girl who’s amazing with throwing knife’s, throws one at Katniss but luckily her backpack acts like a shield to save her. Overall that fight benefited Katniss because she used that knife that was stuck in her backpack for a different situation. Later on, Katniss was trapped on a tree by several other tributes trying to kill her. That’s when she used her knife to cut down a branch of bee’s that are very fatal. The other tribute’s ran in fear and then Katniss made her escape. The last big fight Katniss had, was when she and Peeta faced off with Cato on top of the cornucopia. Katniss shot Cato with her bow and he fell off the cornucopia into a horde of viscous dog-like animals. After Cato is defeated, it looked as if the games were over, but they weren’t. The announcer changed his statement earlier about there being two victors into one victor. Then Katniss and Peeta decided they were going to kill themselves with poisonous berries. Right as they were about to do it, the announcer took back what he had said and made the games have two victors After that, every thing went back to normal and Katniss and Peeta went home. Katniss goes through many conflicts in the Hunger Games. Katniss goes through man v. nature, man v. society and man v. man. Man v. nature: Katniss has to protect her family by hunting for animals and also harvesting plants. Man v. society: Katniss must not let the capital find out that she goes into the woods. Almost everyday, she sneaks through the electric fence (Its usually not active) without the capital knowing. Man v. man: List of all fights she’s had, Fight with the woman with the knifes, fight with the tributes trapping her in the tree, fight with the boy who speared Rue and the fight with Cato on top of the cornucopia. In the Hunger Games, the capital seems to be the issue or problem throughout whole story. The capital forced many people to be in the arena. Two pieces of evidence:“The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV”(On book cover). The Capital also does very harsh punishments to people who do any sort of crime. Resolution: When Peeta and Katniss killed Cato, most of their problems were resolved and they got to go home.
