Introducing Light
• Explain the difference between
luminous and non-luminous objects.
What objects can you see
from where you are sitting
that make their own light?
Luminous Sources
A luminous source is an object that can
create light.
Let’s see how many we
can name in 90 seconds!
Luminous Sources
The most important luminous source is
the sun.
Others include:
– Fire
– Electric Lights
– Fireworks
– Lightning
Non-Luminous Objects
Non-luminous objects do not create light.
So how are we able to see them?
We can see non-luminous
objects because of the light
reflected off of them.

Objects which do not make their own light are

Luminous Source Worksheet
1. Circle the luminous sources
2. Label the luminous sources
3. Draw how the one-armed man would be
able to watch television.
4. Draw how the man would be able to see
the chair.

Under The Sea
Deep in the sea... It can be so deep that
light from the sun can not be seen.
How can animals survive down here?
