Same Mission, New Goal
F
or the past 16 years, Stillpoint Family Resources has
been Changing Lives, Strengthening Families, and
Shaping Culture through our counseling and educational programs. These programs were begun in response
to a need that was seen in the special needs community to
support families of special needs children with emotional
support in times of stress, and grew into the nonprofit we
are today: supporting all people who come to us in crisis at
our counseling centers, and reaching out to individuals and
families who won’t necessarily ever seek counseling through
our VirtueYou curriculum found both online and in
published materials.
As Stillpoint has grown, we have continued our work with
families of special needs children, both in private family
counseling at our centers, and in work at our office in the
Institute for Maternal and Fetal Health at Children’s Hospital
LA. A new goal that has come out of our original mission
and continued work with families of special needs children
has arisen through talks with our clients and friends with
children who are now young adults with special needs:
appropriate and meaningful housing situations for them.
Stillpoint is beginning a long-range campaign to have
homes for men and women with special needs in the San
Fernando Valley or surrounding areas. The goal not only
includes opening up homes that could house up to 10
adults with special needs, but it
is hoped that the
spaces would
double as meetin g p l a c e s f o r

would include a
meditative garden. The residents of the homes would work
the events, the garden, the kitchen, and be a part of the
communities that surround them in a vital and necessary
way.
As we begin to draw up plans, look into legalities, and
decide on a budget, we look forward to speaking with you
about this new goal and in having you join with us in building this vital Community Center and Home for people with
special needs. We look forward to embracing our newest
work in the special needs community with your help. Thank
you for praying for this project as we move forward.
Together, we can continue to Shape Culture in our local
community as we change the lives of families with special
needs adult children who are looking for transformative
housing.
Healing for All
Last week two clients shared the waiting room. One had arrived via his very expensive German made car, one had
taken two busses to get to his therapy appointment. One had been Ivy League educated, one had not graduated
from high school. One owned a business, and one was grateful to have just found employment, albeit part-time
employment. In the everyday world, I have trouble imagining a scenario where these two men's path would cross.
But at Stillpoint Family Resources this is far from unusual — seeing such diversity in any one of our seven different
office locations in Southern California. Because Stillpoint Family Resources is known for both its professional
excellence and it's commitment to the under-served. And this is why for over fifteen years now, Stillpoint Family
Resources has been 'changing lives, strengthening families, and shaping culture.' — Dr. Ross Porter
Our Vision
The challenges
Never before have so many families -- parents and children alike -- been in search of guidance and coping help as they
deal with social, spiritual and psychological challenges. And where there is challenge, even crisis, there is also significant
opportunity for growth and healing, and transformation. There is a great need for good news--counsel that encourages,
strengthens and heals.
What we believe
Stillpoint Family Resources is committed to changing lives, strengthening families and shaping culture, with a heart for
helping underserved people. We don't believe that money should be the deciding factor in whether a family ultimately
survives. Through our counseling and educational efforts, we are making an important difference to families in greater
Los Angeles and beyond.
What we do
Stillpoint Family Resources provides healing and hope to individuals, couples, and families in need through counseling and
educating. We proactively respond to issues that threaten their emotional and spiritual lives. We have offices throughout
Southern California, and we also offer support in our VirtueYou books, blogs, and podcasts. Additionally, our
speakers' bureau presents seminars and workshops across the country.
