PROFESSOR/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER
(3 posts): Animal Breeding, Animal Health and Mono-gastric Nutrition
Minimum requirements:

An MSc/PhD in Animal Science, with speciality in any of the following: Mono-gastric
Nutrition, Animal Breeding/Genetics or Animal Health, integrated with aspects on anatomy,
physiology and animal welfare;

Lecturing experience in ether of the following: Pig and Poultry Science, Animal
Breeding/genetics or Animal Health;

For animal health, the candidate must be registered with the South African Council for
Veterinary Scientists;

Research experience (A substantial research publication for a Professor , Well developed
research and publication record for a Senior Lecturer and Established and clear interest
towards research for a Lecturer)

Experience in leading joint research projects;

Good teamwork, interpersonal and leadership skills;

Strong language and communication skills.

The ability to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students to the Department

For a professorship/Senior Lectureship post, the candidate should have a PhD and a record
of post-graduate supervision at Masters and PhD level, and evidence of previous funding
awarded.
Duties:

Teach modules at undergraduate and post-graduate levels

Initiate own research and supervise students at Honours, MSc and PhD level, and attract
research funding

Engage in interdisciplinary collaborative research and community engagement

Participate in normal administrative duties necessary for the smooth running of the
department.
