What Does It Mean that TROY-Phenix City is Switching to Terms?
Will all academic programs be switched to terms?
No. Nursing will be the only program that will remain on a semester schedule.
Will my financial aid award be reduced?
No, the amount of your financial aid award will not change. Changing to terms just means that your
disbursement pattern will change from two disbursements per year (Fall & Spring) to four disburse
ments (T1, T2, T3, T4).
Will the financial aid refund procedure change?
No. Financial Aid & scholarships will begin disbursing after the designated drop/add date. Refunds
will be issued within 7-10 days after financial aid disbursement.
Will the course load change? How many hours are required for full time?
For terms, 6 hours would be considered full time. Reference this chart for the breakdown.

What if I am a semester student, but taking term classes?
If you receive the Pell Grant, it will disburse based on your enrollment. If you are taking a minimum
of 6 hours, all of your Stafford loans will disburse at the beginning of the semester. You will not
receive another loan disbursement until the following semester. It is imperative that you maintain
your financial aid refund in order to pay for the term classes that you will be taking during the 2nd
half of the semester.
What if I am a term student, but taking semester classes?
You must remember that all semester classes will be listed during the initial term of that semester
time period. Therefore, in order to receive your term disbursement for the second half of the
semester time period, you must take term classes for that specific term.
Will I be able to set-up a payment plan for term classes?
Unfortunately, you will not. But you can still make payments online through Trojan Web Express by
using a debit or credit card. You can also make payments by visiting Student Financial Services
located on the third floor of the Adams Building.
What happens if I change my degree from semester to term disbursement pattern?
If you change your degree after your Financial Aid has been awarded, the disbursement pattern will
not change until the following academic year. In this case, you will need to see the Financial Aid
Counselor at TROY-Phenix City for guidance on how to prepare for your financial aid
disbursements.
Will I be able to register for two terms at once?
No. You will only be allowed to register for one term at a time.
Will drop/add dates be affected?
No. As always, refer to the academic calendar located in the schedule for drop/add dates for the
current term.
Will my registration procedure or advisor change?
No.

FINANCIAL AID
Troy University endeavors to offer the finest education possible at an affordable cost. A Troy
University degree is accessible because of the number and types of financial assistance available to
students.
• Scholarships
• Federal Pell Grants
• Federal Workstudy (FWS)
• Student Loans (Stafford and Perkins)
• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
• Veterans’ Financial Assistance
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), FA Counseling, and other forms are available
online at www.troy.edu/financialaid; although the FAFSA is available on January 1, the other forms are
usually not available until February. If you need a paper FAFSA, you may obtain one by calling 800-4FED-AID or 800-433-3243.
If you have already applied for current year financial aid, the USDE will send a reminder in November/December to all renewal eligible applicants with a valid e-mail address. If e-mail is undeliverable, a paper reminder letter will be sent. Students without a valid e-mail address will receive paper reminders rather than
pin mailers. If the student has not reapplied by February 2nd, the USDE will send follow up e-mail reminders or paper mail reminders as appropriate.
Students MUST APPLY AS EARLY AS ALLOWABLE for financial aid in order to avoid difficulties. March 1
is the application priority date. Moreover, students MUST CAREFULLY CHECK the accuracy of their applications to avoid unnecessary delays and other complications.
Note to Borrowers: If you borrowed at Troy University and drop a course or withdraw from the University,
you should go to www.troy.edu/financialaid to complete an exit interview and to notify your lender that you
are no longer enrolled or enrolled less than half time. Repayment begins in 6 months. There are deferments of payment for unemployment, hardship, etc. See Financial Aid Adviser.
All students who receive Title IV funds (Pell Grant, FSEOG, and Loans) ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND
THOSE CLASSES FOR WHICH THEY REGISTER. Attendance will be verified by the class instructors.
Students who do not attend any classes will forfeit their financial aid. Students who are reported as not attending a class for which they are registered will receive a non-attendance letter/form requiring an instructor’s signature or financial aid could be reversed, forfeiting the aid. The student will also be required to pay
all tuition and fees. Withdrawal from the University will also require repayment of unused portions of federal assistance.

Veteran’s Information
For all students who plan on using their VA benefits, here are some general remainders about the procedures that are required:
•
In order for your classes to be certified, please go online to Troy's website and complete our VA Certification Request Form online. https://forms.troy.edu/veterans/index.html
Please make sure you select your home location and list every campus/site you are taking classes
(i.e. Troy-Columbus, eTroy, Phenix City, etc…).
•
If you receive Chapter 30 or Chapter 1606/1607 benefits, you must verify your attendance. You will
not receive payment until VA receives your verification. You will have to verify your attendance on the last day of each month. You may do so via the automated telephone system at 1-877823-2378 or via the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) at
https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/default.cfm

Nutrition Minor
Troy University offers a nutrition minor program through the Department of Kinesiology and Health
Promotion. A minor in nutrition is an excellent complement to many academic majors including Exercise
Science, Hospitality Sport & Tourism, Biology, Chemistry, Human Services, Social Work, Nursing,
Psychology, and pre-health professions programs. Nutrition courses provide academic preparation for
certification programs such as personal trainer or diabetic educator. Students may also take nutrition
courses as electives. All courses are offered conveniently online and will not interfere with course
schedules. The minor may be completed in one year. Troy University has partnerships with other
universities to accept all courses in the nutrition minor for transfer to undergraduate and graduate
programs in nutrition and dietetics.
