(FVRMC) are excited about our
future and the changes we are and
will be making. $26M is a large
investment, even larger when considering the healthcare dynamics in
play today. Through the support of

advancing our technical capabilities

Investing $26M in better patient experience, outcomes
F
ountain Valley Regional Hospital has initiated a $26 million capital
investment project aimed at redefining the facility’s exterior appearance,
improving several interior patient care areas and building advanced
surgical and diagnostic suites for minimally invasive and hybrid procedures.
The 400-bed facility is an important tertiary
care center in Orange County and an integral
part of the California Regional market for
Tenet Health, a nationally leading healthcare
services company.
“It’s exciting to be investing this large
amount of capital into our hospital with
the input and overwhelming support of our
employees, governing board and medical staff
members,” states B. Joseph Badalian. “At a
time when hospitals are facing uncertain reimbursements and increasing healthcare reform
demands, these major investments truly reflect
our long-term commitment to providing even
better health care for our patients, physicians,
and the community.”
The $26 million investment includes
creating a Hybrid Operating Room (OR) for
complex yet less invasive heart and blood
vessel treatments, an Interventional Radiology
(IR) Suite with advanced imaging capabilities
to help physicians diagnose and treat heart disease, cancer, neurovascular and other disorders,
and making aesthetic upgrades both outside
and inside the hospital.
Hybrid Operating Room
The new Hybrid OR will provide a single
suite where doctors can perform both traditional open surgeries and minimally invasive
procedures, such as repairing defective heart
valves or aneurysms.
The suite will house the GE Discovery
digital imaging system mounted on a mobile
gantry that moves along predefined pathways,
guided by laser. By touching a few buttons,

a doctor can move the system to the table to
take pictures of the patient’s anatomy, and
then move it out of the way, allowing room
to position physicians, nurses, technologists,
anesthesiologists and other personnel optimally
for surgery, with unobstructed access to the
patient. With a Hybrid OR, there is no need
to transfer the patient between procedures,
reducing the risk of procedural complications,
infections and OR time.

Interventional Suite
The IR Suite features an advanced GE
Innova digital X-ray imaging system to see
extremely detailed, real-time images of patient anatomy during procedures that require
exacting precision,without major surgery and
with less radiation.
For delicate procedures, such as placing
a tiny wire mesh tube (stent) in a patient’s
artery to sustain or recover blood flow, it’s
critical for physicians to see the anatomy
very clearly while guiding catheters, stents
and other medical devices to areas needing
treatment. The new IR Suite also allows
doctors to see more anatomy in a single
exam and complete studies with fewer X-ray
images, less X-ray dose and fewer injections
of contrast dye.
Augmenting its well reputed heart and
stroke programs, which include an accredited Chest Pain Center and Primary Stroke
Center, the Hybrid OR and IR Suite will
facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach to
procedures, including cardiologists, electrophysiologists, interventional cardiologists,
interventional radiologists, cardiac surgeons
and vascular surgeons.
These highly trained physicians can work
together in teams as needed to perform more
complex procedures such as transcatheter
aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and endovascular coiling of brain aneurisms.
Exterior & Interior plans
Lastly, aesthetic plans include architecturally improving the exterior façade of the
hospital itself, new color palettes within the
hospital, innovative way finding with visually appealing graphic elements, and modernized renovations to patient rooms in the
Telemetry and Obstetrical Care Units. The
enhancements focus on a more pleasing, patient experience and respecting the diversity
of the hospital’s surrounding communities.

Architectural design work has already
been initiated, and completion dates for
some of these projects are slated as early as
one year from now.

Robotics at FVRMC
ountain Valley Regional Medical Center offers patients two types of robotic surgery: the
da Vinci® Si Surgical System and the Mazor
Renaissance Robotic Guidance System. At FVRMC,
only trained and experienced surgeons credentialed with
our Robotic Surgery Program may use one of our robotic
surgical systems.
da Vinci®a Si Surgical System:
With the da Vinci system physicians, sitting at a console, direct tiny robotic-like instruments to make small
incisions that typically cause less trauma on the body.
The system translates the surgeon’s hand movements
into micro-movements of the instruments, more subtle
and accurate than the normal human hand motion. At the
same time, doctors can view a 3D image of the surgical
site on a high-definition monitor by inserting a miniaturized camera into the patient.

Mazor Renaissance™ Robotic Guidance
System for Spine Surgery:
Surgical treatment of the spine requires planning and
precision; and each patient’s anatomy has unique challenges. Surgeons use Mazor’s advanced 3D planning
software before surgery to create a unique surgical blueprint, which is the ideal surgery for each patient’s condition. During surgery, the Renaissance™ system guides
the surgeon’s tools according to the surgical blueprint to
place the spinal implants safely, and with a higher level
of accuracy, in the exact preplanned locations. And since
there is no need for additional X-rays during surgery,
with Renaissance™ there is less exposure to radiation
than with other surgical treatments.
Renaissance™ is used to treat patients suffering from
debilitating back pain or limited range of motion caused
by spinal deformities and degenerative conditions such
as slipped vertebrae, scoliosis, and spinal nerve impingement (pinched nerves).
