Technology Survey for Parents
As part of our technology initiative we have partnered with the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center and
BrightBytes, an educational technology company, to collect information on technology use. We are using the Clarity
Technology Survey to get better insight on how technology is impacting learning. The questionnaires do not collect any
personal information about you or children. The reports provide only whole school or district information. We invite you to
answer a few questions about your technology use. It should take less than 5 minutes to complete on any device with
Internet access.

parenting issues related to the internet, media and technology.

[email protected]. Screen Shots. Kids love to capture cool graphics or other images on their mobile devices or
computers. One way they can do so is by taking a screen shot. Parents may also want to take a screen shot to capture an
image, or to document a conversation or text message. Here is how to take a screen shot on various devices:

iOS (including iPhone and iPad): hold down at once the Home and On/Off button. The image is captured in
the Camera
Roll or photo app. Android: hold down at once the Volume Down and Power buttons for 1-2 seconds. The
image is captured in the Gallery or Photos app.

Mac: hold down at once Command and Shift and press the #/3 key. The entire screen is saved as a file on the
desktop.
Windows: press the PrtSc/SysRq key. Windows captures the screen and copies it to the (invisible) clipboard,
then you can paste as needed.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of parenting in the digital age. Remember to speak with your children
about safe, appropriate and responsible use of technology.
Parent & Teacher Training For the BHCSD Interview Committee
Each year, the Byram Hills Central School District establishes interview teams for the hiring of teachers and
administrators. The District has been very successful in hiring and retaining excellent teachers and administrators as a
result of teacher and parent committee participation.
Jen Lamia, Assistant to the Superintendent for Human Resources, will be offering two opportunities for parents and
teachers to attend a training session in order to be part of a hiring committee in the future.

Both sessions will be held in the District Office Boardroom.
Parent Pick-Up Process In an effort to ensure that our parent pick-up process is both efficient and safe for our students, we are requesting that all
notes are filled out completely and legibly and include the name of the person picking up your child as opposed to their role
(i.e. mom, babysitter, grandparent). Additionally, when a parent or designated friend is picking up a student, all names
need to be printed clearly on the sign out sheet for our staff. This is our permanent documentation that your child is being
released to the correct adult, and we are requesting your attention to this important matter. Thank you.

What can you do to help your community? V.I.P. Jr. will participate in a variety of activities geared towards
helping those in need within our local community.

The Site-Based Teams
The Site-Based Teams are organized by school and members work with the building principals to support the school-based
initiatives and goals. Members of the Site-Based Teams meet periodically throughout the year as scheduled within each
building, and work closely with the principal and teachers to develop individual school goals related to district initiatives.
Two to three representatives for each school are needed. If interested, please contact Lara Stangel, PTSA president, at
[email protected]. The District wide goals include: Character Education, Sustainability, and Cultural Proficiency. Each year
we look at a specific curricular area. This year we will review the new Social Studies framework.
The dates for the District-wide Site-Based Team meetings are: October 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 & February 26th from 4:00 6:00. The meetings will take place at H. C.Crittenden Middle School.

PLAYDATE NOTES
Playdate notes are accepted on the morning of the playdate. Please note that we are able to honor requests for playdates
subject to the seating capacity of the district’s buses. If we are unable to honor a playdate note due to lack of available
seating on the requested bus, you will be notified by the transportation office.
EARLY PICK-UP Due to bus traffic patterns, children may not be picked up for early dismissal between 2:15 and
3:00. Leaving early disturbs the educational setting and should be avoided when possible. Thank you for your
cooperation.
PARKING When visiting Wampus please be careful not to park in the bus or fire lane. It is important to keep these lanes free for
safety reasons. ABSENCES
The school must be called each day your child does not attend. Please report the absence before
9:00 A.M. If your child is tardy, he or she must be walked in and signed in at the front desk. A written absence note must
be brought in when the child returns to school. ELECTRONICS At Wampus, students are strongly discouraged from bringing personal electronic devices to school. However, if a
student brings a personal device he/she is responsible for it and the District is not responsible if it is stolen, lost or
damaged. The Board acknowledges that cellular phones, pagers, and 2-way communication systems can be a positive
means to facilitate communication; however, the display and/or use of such devices can cause disruption to the
educational process. Therefore, to prevent such disruption, the display and/or use by students of cellular phones, pagers,
and 2-way communication systems and/or other electronic devices shall be prohibited in Wampus from the time students
arrive at school until the end of the regular school day. Such devices must be turned off and stored out of sight during this
time period.
NOTES - AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Students who wish to have an after school activity that requires a bus change from their regular bus route must have a
written signed parental note brought to the teacher by the start of the school day. No phone messages or faxes for change
of bus routes will be permitted. No written notes can be accepted after 10:00 A.M. due to the scheduling of appropriate
bus routes. If a parent or guardian comes to pick up a child for an unplanned early dismissal he/she will be requested to
show photo identification.
TRANSPORTATION PADS
Transportation pads can be purchased at each Back-to-School Night or in the main office. The price is one (1) pad for $4.00
or three (3) pads for $10.00. Please bring EXACT change.
ALTERNATE PLANS
All transportation notes MUST include an alternate plan written on the bottom of the same note.
MAKE-UP WORK FOR STUDENTS
When a student is absent, homework assignments may be requested no later than 9:00 A.M. on the second consecutive
day of the absence. Every attempt will be made to have the work available for pick up in the lobby at 3:05 P.M. It is
suggested that students contact a reliable fellow student as an alternative for homework assignments for a one day
absence.
FORGOTTEN INSTRUMENTS
Forgotten Instruments should be left on the front table in the lobby. Students will be asked to check the front desk to see if
the instrument has been dropped off. INSTRUMENTS WILL NOT BE DELIVERED TO THE CLASSROOMS.
On December 2nd, renowned children’s author/illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka will be visiting. He is a two-time winner of the Children's Choice Book Award
for the Third to Fourth Grade Book of the Year and is the author and illustrator of twenty-three books including the Lunch Lady graphic novels and Platypus
Police Squad middle-grade novel series. Jarrett's TED Talk on his journey from boy to artist has been viewed nearly a half-million times. He is also the host of
The Book Report with JJK on SiriusXM's Kids Place Live, a weekly segment celebrating books, authors and reading. His work was recently featured on the
front page of The Boston Globe and on NPR's All Things Considered.

Dr. Baruch-Feldman will advise parents how to help children successfully navigate childhood
friendships, including reciprocal friendships and peer pressure for children both with and
without special needs.
Dr. Caren Baruch-Feldman, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist. She
maintains a private practice in Scarsdale and works part-time as a school psychologist in the Harrison
schools in Westchester, New York. Her private practice focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for
children and adults and Psycho-Educational Evaluations. Dr. Baruch-Feldman has authored numerous
articles and led workshops on topics including cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, helping children and
adults with stress and worry, executive functioning, and psychological assessment.. Dr. Baruch-Feldman
received her undergraduate degree from Barnard College of ColumbiaUniversity and received her doctorate
in Clinical-Child Psychology and School Psychology Certificate from St. John’s University. She did her
internship and post doctoral training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Baruch-Feldman trained at
the Albert Ellis Institute and is a Fellow and Supervisor in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a
type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Shall the ward system be established for the election of Councilmen or
Councilwomen in the Town of North Castle?
Proposition 2:
Shall the number of Councilmen or Councilwomen of the Town of North Castle be
increased from four to six?
Polls will be open 6:00 am to 9:00 pm at three locations:
• Armonk Firehouse – This is a consolidated polling site.
