LUNCH PRICE INCREASES JANUARY 2015 TO $14.00
Our caterer has borne the rising food costs and will need to increase the
individual SIR (and guest) lunch cost to $14.00 each beginning with our
Friday, January 2, 2015 luncheon. I’m certain you’ve been satisfied with
the food quality and portion size and want for that to continue.
CALL IF YOU CAN’T GET TO OUR LUNCH (536-6333)
Last month a record was set for the highest number of SIR members who:
- Didn’t attend the luncheon, and who
- Didn’t call beforehand!
We need to be considerate to our caterer and not surprise him with No
Shows causing him a financial loss.

We’ll have a ceremony honoring our SIR Branch WWII
Veterans and hope all of you will remain for this event after
finishing your lunch. Please stick around for this event.
December 3
Frank and Sally Helms, owners of Dodge Ridge Ski Resort will be our
guest speakers for the Wednesday, December 3rd luncheon.
They’ll talk about current operations as they plan for the upcoming
winter season, additional improvements and customer services planned
for the future.
The next BEC Meeting will be on Monday, Dec 1, 2014 at
the Pine Tree Restaurant. Board Members and Group
Chairmen and all members are invited

If you won’t be at the lunch, you need to call our
Hotline (536-6333) before 12:00 noon on the day
prior to our lunch.
You will be counted as an Excused Absence – calling
after noon or not showing up without calling will be an
Unexcused Absence
Guests - call our Hotline before noon the day before
our lunch with your guest’s name.
ACTIVITY GROUP NEWS
Bike (Glenn Mutch, 588-8404)
Tuesday, November 18th is the next bike ride. Glenn will meet everyone near Kohl’s in the Junction Shopping
Center at 8:30am and a carpool caravan will head to Knight’s Ferry. Ride out and back with lunch at The 50’s
Café. Bring a helmet, gloves, tube repair, water, snack or lunch money. Oh yea, we need pictures, so,
one or more should bring a camera and take a bunch of pictures!!!

Games and tournaments will resume Spring 2015.
Hike (Jerry Jensen, 928-1278)
Hike around Pinecrest Lake on Thursday, November 20, 2014. Meet at 8:30am at the Twain Harte Market
and we’ll car pool. It’s about 4.5 miles round trip staying around 5,600 feet. Flat terrain with short up pitches
over several rocky bluffs. Bring lunch, water, mosquito repellent and sun block. And, yea, we need
pictures, so one or more hikers need to bring their camera!!!
Horseshoes (Cas Munoz, 586-1578)
SIR Horseshoe games will restart in Spring 2015
Pinochle (Roland Patton, 586-5643)
Games are each Monday at the Moose Lodge on Longeway: November 3, 10, 17 and 24
Play starts at 12:30pm and usually ends at or before 3:30pm. We play ‘Cutthroat’ (3 players) over 8
games with 3 hands per game and the entry fee is $3.00.
Propane (Roy Gray, 586-9663)
SIR# 172 has a deal with J.S. West to provide members with propane at $0.65 above their daily/
weekly costs. The price for the week ending Nov 7 is $1.78/gallon. Contact Roy for information.
RV (Duane Porter, 533-2189)
There’s a preliminary trip to Arizona for Spring Training in March 2015. Duane will provide details as they
come together.
Tech (Dick Chimenti, 677-7070)
Dick held a meeting last month focusing on how to move pictures from a camera to computer, resize
pictures & how to send them via email and there’s a summary on page 4. There’s no meeting
planned for November, but, please call or email Dick ([email protected]) with any ideas
Theater (Dave Palmer, 352-6157)
The final play for this year takes place at the Fallon House:

We need a preliminary headcount before we pay the reservation fee and book a trip. An email flyer
went out and you should “Reply To All” and pick a trip – no obligation, just a needed headcount.
Choose one or both “Snow Train” to Reno in Feb or “Spring Training” to Glendale, AZ in Mar 2015.
Look for the Motherlode Travel table at the lunch this week and sign up there if you want.

Becky Chimenti took this picture at the Bell Meadow
hike: pictured are Mike Clay (#77), Jerry Jensen,
Dick Chimenti, John Morton and his friend, John and
finally, Dennis Hebert.
Bell Meadows is in a valley originally carved by glaciers and
has one of the largest Stanislaus Nat’l Forest aspen groves.
Wildlife species include mule deer, black bears, foxes,
bobcats, mountain lions and coyotes. Glad to report all SIR
hikers returned safe and sound

Technology User’s Group (TUG)
SIR Dick Chimenti’s October lunch meeting involved digital pictures - maneuvering them on your computer. This
section will highlight general and specific issues and we ask you to tell us what you’d like to learn - send an email with
specifics to Dick Chimenti and Paul Halek
FREE COMPUTER CLASSES AT TUOLUMNE COUNTY LIBRARY
The Sonora Library at 480 Greenly Road is offering Free computer classes to beginning and intermediate adults. Each
course is two sessions and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am to 10:00am.
You need to call 209-533-5507 as soon as possible to try to get a seat at one or all events.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Word, Email & Internet, Photo processing and computer basics.

SIR BRANCH ATTENDANCE RULES (abridged)
Rule 100.
A member may be terminated for any of the following:
(a) Missing three consecutive regular luncheon meetings without having been excused
prior to the meeting date.
(b) Did not attend one-half of the regular luncheon meetings within the previous
twelve consecutive month period.
Rule 101.
Certification of attending another Branch meeting will be considered as a credit to his
attendance record.
