Self Service
Self-Service is a secure, online way to access personal, payroll and compensation, benefits and job
posting data.
What is Self Service?
Self-Service is an online application that allows you to conveniently
and securely access data right from your desktop or at home. SelfService can be used to view or update your personal, benefits, compensation or payroll data. You may also apply for NSTAR job openings.
Why Self Service?
NSTAR strives to continually provide employees with helpful ways to
access information. With Self Service, you can manage your individual human resources information online with secure, easy and convenient access when you need to.
How Does Self Service Work?
You have been given access to self service through the NSTAR
Internet Explorer icon or with an IP Address. You have been assigned a login ID and password to use Self Service right away. All
you need to do is follow the instructions on the next page to start
utilizing your Self Service access.
Security
Your human resources information is password
protected and accessible only by you. Please
remember to keep this information confidential.
If you share your password information, it will be
possible for someone else to view or change your
confidential, personal, benefits and payroll information.

How to Sign In
There are two ways to log in to Self Service
From your desktop at work:
1. Click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop
2. You are now at the Working at NSTAR home page
3. You will see a list of links to choose from under Popular Apps
4. Click on Self Service
From your home computer:
1. Type in the following: www.nstar.com/selfservice
You are now at the Self Service log in screen
Log In:
1. Type in your User ID and Password:
User ID = Your 6 digit employee ID number
For first time users:
Password = NS (all caps) and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number
Example: 001234
NS5678 (all caps)
2. Click Sign On. First time users will be asked to change their password. Your new password must be at least 6 characters and contain at least 1 number.

Instructions for Navigating Through Self Service
The menu page is now located across the top of the page. You can
either click on Main Menu or continue to use the folder list, located on
the left side of the page, to get started.
If you choose to use the folder list, you will need to click on Home, to
return to your home page.

Signing Out of Self Service
In order to sign out of Self Service, you need to be within the Self
Service link.

Instructions for Changing Your Password
1. Click on Main Menu then Change Password
2. Enter your current password
3. Enter your new password of a minimum of 6 characters containing at least 1 number (password should conform to NSTAR’s pol-
icy)
4. Confirm your new password by entering it in a second time
5. Click the blue Change Password box
6. Click on Home to return to your home page
Self-Service Main Menu
The Self-Service Main Menu has several various links. Click on the
appropriate link to access your personal information, payroll and compensation, benefits or recruiting activities.

There are four major links to areas of
information:
Personal Information
This section allows you to view and update your home address, home
phone number, emergency contact and marital status information.
You can also view a summary of your personal information. Click on
the appropriate link to make your changes or view personal data.

Payroll and Compensation
This page allows you to view and print your paycheck or change your
pay option to go paperless. You can also view your direct deposit
accounts and compensation history. You can change your federal tax
withholding and voluntary deductions or request your W-2 to be reissued. Click on the appropriate link to make your changes or view
your payroll and compensation information.
Printing Your Paycheck
Click on View Paycheck and select the pay check you would like to
print. Next, go to File > Page Setup and use the following parameters:
Under Paper Options, keep default as Portrait and click on
“Enable Shrink-to-fit” box
Change Margins to 0 (margins will change to appropriate default)
Click OK (this will save the above settings)
NOTE: You only need to do the above steps once
Click on Print This Page link in the upper right hand corner

Pay Statement Print Option
This page allows you to change your pay option and go paperless. It
is available to employees who have 100% direct deposit. To set up
or change your direct deposit information, please contact the Payroll
Department (see page 11).
Click on Pay Statement Print Option to make your change.
Click on Do not send a paper copy to change your pay option.

Benefits
You can review health insurance and dependent and beneficiary
information. Use this page to enroll in benefit plans and make other
changes when you are hired, during open enrollment or have a
life-changing event. You can also view a summary of your benefits
information. Click on the appropriate link to make your changes or
view benefits data.

Recruiting Activities
You have the ability to apply for positions through Self Service. This
page allows you to apply for Non Represented or Represented internal
job postings.
Click on the Non Represented Job Posting link to view or apply for
open non represented positions. Click on the Represented Job Posting
link to view or apply for open represented jobs.

You will be able to view or apply for all open internal postings. Click on
the Job Title link to view the job posting information. To apply for a
position, check the select box and click on the Apply Now button on
the bottom of the page.
