The Alliance française de La Haye is specialized in providing
French courses and organizing francophone cultural events. Our
non-profit organization is part of a large international network which
consists of more than 850 Alliances Françaises worldwide.
Over the last 20 years, many private companies, Dutch governmental
institutions and international organisations have entrusted the Alliance
française de La Haye to bring the French language and culture to
their employees. Every year we welcome approximately 900 students
(1200 registrations) who benefit from our expertise in French language
teaching.

OUR APPROACH IS COMMUNICATIVE
AND INTERACTIVE
At the Alliance Française we use the latest
French teaching materials focussing
on interactivity between students and
teachers. These materials will guide the
students systematically throughout their
learning career at the Alliance française
de La Haye and can be purchased at our
premises during office hours.
The use of the Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages
makes it possible to assess the language
level against an international standard. At
the end of each session an evaluation test
is given in order to allow the students to
gage their progress in French proficiency.
THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) defines the five
linguistic skills (listening skills, reading skills, conversation skills, productive speaking
and writing skills) on six different levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2). The definitions have
universal applicability. This means that, level B1 for French implies the same skills as the
B1 level does for Dutch or English. At the intake as well as at the end of the course, the
teachers determine the students’ level of fluency.

EVALUATION
All of our teachers are native French
speakers and are certified to teach
French as a foreign language. It is
important to note that all sessions are
taught in French, even the beginners’
classes, thus immersing the students
in the French frame of mind as well as
familiarizing them with the usefulness of
the language on a day-to-day basis. As
such, the learning of French becomes very
accessible for an international audience.

CONVERSATION CLASSES - FROM INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED
This course serves as a springboard to develop solid conversational skills in French.
By the end of this class, students should be more confident and autonomous in their
spoken French. Each teacher selects a textbook, an easy-to-read novel, a news article
or a film in order to achieve the goals set out for this course.
Please note : unlike the general French courses, you will not attain a higher level after
this course.

Students will learn a wide range of vocabulary used in various business fields
and will focus primarily on oral and written comprehension, namely in vocal
expression/speaking and writing of emails. This class is tailored according to the
student’s needs.

In January, February and March 2015, 3 legal French workshops will give you the
opportunity to broach French, European and international law through a series of
3 units of 9 hours (3 hours every Wednesday for 3 weeks).
The content of these workshops will be online from the beginning of December
2014.

NEXT JULY, SPECIAL WORKSHOP FRENCH FOR DIPLOMATS
The Alliance française de La Haye has been selected by the MAE - French Ministry
of Foreign Affairs for the organization of French classes specifically geared
towards diplomats, civil servants and managers in international organizations
located in The Hague.
The Alliance française de La Haye also offers a series of lectures on various
themes in connection with the domain of legal affairs, international law and
political negotiation. This program will be presented in the form of short but
intensive courses.

The program has been set up so that it prepares the UN employees very specifically
for the exam that they will take. The activities are similar to the ones they will have
to deal with in the exam and organized around 4 skills: listening, reading, writing
and speaking.
By the end of the training, participants will be familiar with the specific format of
the exam as well as the different questions that are frequently asked. The training
is organized around 6 relevant topics: Media & communication, Humanitarian aid
& development, Environment, Education, Health, International rights and peace

FRENCH AS FOREIGN LANGUAGE
The Alliance française de La Haye also has specific courses for children who would like
to learn French as a foreign language.
NATIVE YOUNG FRENCH SPEAKERS
This course is especially designed for children (ages 6-12) who speak French at
home and who have no problem understanding spoken French. They will continue
to expand their speaking abilities and will develop their writing and reading skills
through fun and hands-on activities.

This program is specially designed for young readers. However, oral
communication and understanding will also be improved. Focus will be on

This programme focuses on expanding children’s vocabulary and use of the
language. The aim of this course is to stimulate children to read and to work on

are an expat, a foreign student or an international residing in Den Haag, then join our
Dutch language programs. As with the French courses, Dutch courses also follow the
CEFRL in the progression. These programs are conducted by a native Dutch speaker who
is a multilingual teacher with great experience in the international and multicultural
environment of the city of The Hague. If you do not yet understand and speak Dutch, then

Starting any time you wish, the Alliance Française offers private and semi-private lessons
tailored to suit your particular goals and your schedule. Course material and instructors
are specially selected to meet your needs, whether it is general French, business French,
conversation or specialized courses such as legal French. We provide individual tutoring
for all levels of proficiency from beginner to advanced. Lessons are available for adults,
teenagers and children.
