We are delighted to have had some involvement in Belper winning the GB Best High Street competition and whilst
we have some great independents in town the reason Belper has won isn’t just because of our retail offering. It’s the
collaboration of people who care from the community, the local authorities and local businesses.
We have listed the projects mentioned in the application and during the judges visit.




















The Belper Ambassador Scheme, an innovate scheme, with retailers, primarily, having over 80 staff trained,
on a voluntary basis, on the great heritage of the town and the current facilities, helping all visitors and
tourists to Belper.
The monthly Farmers Market.
Park & Stride – edge of town Free Parking plus resident free parking after 4pm, supporting the new night
time economy.
The High Street focussed Infrastructure with the Railway station and bus stops right in the heart of the
town.
The Adoption and Improvements of Belper Railway Station by Transition Belper and others, helping the
year on year passenger figure improvements.
Trent Barton buses using the bus livery for promotion, e.g. No7.1 - 7 reasons to visit Belper.
Business sponsorship of hanging baskets, flower beds Christmas trees etc.
Visitor Information Points at the North Mill and at De Bradelei Stores.
The Townscape Heritage Initiative, supporting reinstatement and restoration of important High Street
properties.
Totally Locally Belper promoting the independents in town, set up and supported with the help of Transition
Belper.
The Ritz, award winning independent cinema, helping develop the night time economy.
Indie Day – Participation in the 4th July national event promoting Independent Shopping.
Belper Visitor Guide produced by AVBC and the Belper Town Guide produced by Belper Town Council.
