First L&D Win since 2008!
A
t Beacon Park, the Senior Men scored their first win in a Liverpool&District League race since 2008,
curiously enough also at Beacon Park. True, the bulk of Liverpool Harriers and Southport Waterloo
opted for the Mid Lancs League but we not only placed our 6 counters in the first twenty for 69pts, we also had
15 in the first 50 for a convincing win from LPS (87pts) and Liverpool Harriers (95pts). Phil Robertson led
the Wirral charge in 4th, our highest individual place in the league since Matt Donnery’s 4th in 2010. Phil
Langan (8th), Kev Buxton (11), Joe Johnson (12), David Brockway (15) and Dave Norman (19) completed the
count. Tony Devoy showed a return to form in 20th with new captain, Simon Fox, in 22nd. Emily and Sarah
Kearney were 2nd and 3rd ladies home behind Laura Quine (Liv Har).
Sixteen Teams Close in the English CC Relays
Pride of place among the sixteen Wirral teams that finished at Mansfield was the 12th place by the U13
Boys A team. Given a fine start by Casey Woodworth’s 5th on the opening lap, Tom Clark and Jacob
Quarmby held on well, losing only 15 seconds on the 5th placed team. The B team finished 40th.
The individual performance of the day came from James Taylor who was second on the first lap of the U17
Men. Alex McBain and Matthew Green
brought the A team home in 23rd with the B

London Marathon 2015
The application process for club places has only just
opened and we have yet to be notified of the number of
places we will be given. Applicants should contact Leo
Carroll or sign the notice in the Gatehouse by Dec 15th
and will need to have represented the club in leagues or
championships at least 3 times in 2014. If there are more
qualifying applicants than places names, will be drawn
from a hat before Christmas.
CC Championships 2015
Coaches and team managers will have entry details for
the three Cross Country Championships after Christmas
within the next week. Young members wishing to be entered must let Pam Green (for the Boys) or Sarah
Kearney (for the Girls) know and pay the entry fee either
directly to them or through their coach before Christmas.
Seniors should contact Sarah (Women ) or Simon Fox or
Leo Carroll (Men).
Note that only members who have paid the England Athletics registration fee for 2014-15 can be entered. It is not
enough to have an EA number – this year’s fee must have
been paid.
Manchester Area CC League
Fixture clashes with schools events for the first two
matches reduced participation by Wirral runners. The
U15 Boys came 5th at Stockport and 4th at Sherdley with
Jonathan Head, Tom Rogers and Sam Tempest the counting three. The U13 Boys won at Sherdley with Jacob
Quarmby (2nd ), Casey Woodworth (4th) and Tom Clark
(10th).
Individually Sophie Tarver was 2nd at Sherdley in the
U17 Girls, as was Joe Fountain in the U11. In the U15
Girls, Krystina Martindale finished 4th at Stockport and
7th at Sherdley. Emily Kearney (13th and 17th) and
Sarah Kearney (15th and 19th) were are leading finishers
in the very large Womens fields – ove 200 in both races.
Sarah was 2nd in the F40 age groupat both venues.

Stop Press – First Borders League
The Mens team won the first Borders League at Christleton by a comfortable 78 pts from Buckley with Wallasey third. Phils Robinson (4th) and Langan (5th) gave
the count a good start supported Callum Seymour (12)
and Mark Hulmston (13) and 4 more in the first 50. The
Ladies were just edged into 3rd by Ellesmere Port, both
well adrift of the winners Tattenhall. Sarah and Emily
Kearney who had run in the Manchester league the previous day led them home in 2nd and 5th, with Heather Nuttall ( 23rd) and Caroline Brophy (38th) completing the
