Director November 2014 KNEE HEALTH Thursday, November 20th at 1:00 pm Knee health is a concern for many people as we age. We welcome Jeffrey Rigby, PT, DPT Clinical Director of Rehabilitation at JAG Physical Therapy to our Center to discuss this important topic. Dr. Rigby will give us a review of knee function and discuss strengthening the healthy knee, how to care for the injured knee as well as talking about rehabilitation following surgery. BEGINNING /REFRESHER BRIDGE CLASSES Mondays at 10:00 am Five Week Series Begins November 10th John Anisowicz will be teaching a five week class for someone who wants to learn the game in a warm social atmosphere or someone who is just looking for some refresher sessions. Please call to register for this free series as space is limited. ART CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS Fridays at 11:00 am—5 Week Series Learn to draw—then learn to paint with Artist and Instructor, Deirdra Molloy. Let’s find the lines, shapes and perspective. Define the colors on your palette and paint! Series starts November 14th. Your $25 donation makes this series possible. Preregistration is necessary. “EDUCATE BEFORE YOU MEDICATE” and Brown Bag Pharmacy Tuesday, November 18th at 1:00 pm This program will be presented by a pharmacist from Haworth Apothecary. After this educational presentation, one of the pharmacists will be happy to meet with individuals who have questions about their medications. Please call the Center if you would like to the opportunity to discuss your medication with the pharmacist after this talk. NOVEMBER LUNCHEON Thursday, November 6th at 12:30 pm We welcome back David Podles, Acclaimed International Classical Violinist who will be presenting “The Big Stage—An Homage to Broadway”. Mr. Podles performance will be preceded by lunch. The lunch for this event will be a three course meal from Europe Café and Grill of a Sheppard's salad, humus, and a choice of a chopped lamb kabob, a chopped chicken kabob or sautéed spinach followed by dessert served with coffee or tea. The cost for this event is $13. Advance registration is required. COMPUTER CLASSES WITH TENAFLY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS Students will be volunteering on behalf of the Student Organization to work with seniors on a one-to-one basis . They will be teaching Microsoft Word, e-mailing, tablets, I-phones as well as answering questions pertaining to any related technology . Classes will be held at the Middle School on four Thursday afternoons: 11/13, 11/20, 12/4 and 12/11 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, you must preregister through the Tenafly Senior Center. Participation will be limited to fourteen . CHOCOLATE CANDY WORKSHOP Tuesday, November 18th at 1:00 pm Becky will begin the class with an overview of chocolate tempering by hand using a microwave. You will make 6 chocolate turkey lollipops for the Thanksgiving holiday and dip pretzels, graham crackers, marshmallows and more. The $10 cost includes all supplies. Preregistration is necessary and space is limited. WEATHER CONDITIONS As winter approaches, please remember in case of snow or icy roads, call the Center to see if your class, a scheduled speaker or special event has been cancelled. The day will start with an hour long docent led tour of the historic Rosen House, a Mediterranean style house filled with examples of fine decorative pieces of Asian and Renaissance Art. The tour will be followed by a 50 minute holiday concert in their Music Room and the day will end with a traditional high tea. Cost: $69 Wait List Only Tuesday, December 9th—Holiday Trip to Atlantic City— The Leonia Seniors invite us to join them in the annual holiday trip to Atlantic City. This trip will include, round trip coach transportation, a show ticket for their holiday show, “Jingle All the Way”, a buffet lunch and a $15.00 cash bonus. Cost: $42
