to open the 2014-15 season.
Last Time Out
• Saint Mary’s improved to 3-0 on the
season with an impressive 78-62 win over
Denver.
• Randy Bennett, following the Denver win
– “I thought we played our best game so
far tonight. I was telling our team that I
had that game circled as a tough game in
our non-conference schedule. I was worried about this one and fortunately our
guys played really well.”
• Senior Brad Waldow fell just two points
shy of his career-high with a game-high
26 points and shot 12-of-14 from the
field.
• Redshirt freshman guard Emmett Naar
dished 10 assists, the by a Gael since
Matthew Dellavedova in the 2013 WCC
Tournament.
• Saint Mary’s shot .646 from the field and
an efficient .737 from inside the 3-point
arc.
Scouting The Gaels
»» Saint Mary’s is 3-0 on the young season
with wins over Cal State LA (77-67), New
Mexico State (83-71) and Denver (78-62).
»» The Gaels lost three starters and seven letterwinners from last year’s team that went
23-12 overall, 11-7 (4th) in the West Coast
Conference and advanced to the second
round of the NIT.
»» Senior forward Brad Waldow leads the
team in scoring with 19.3 points per game
at rebounds at 9.7. Guard Kerry Carter aver-
2014-15 Saint Mary’s Men’s Basketball
ages 17.7 points and 8.0 rebounds, while
Aaron Bright is scoring at a 14.7 per game
clip. Redshirt freshman guard Emmett Naar
leads the team with 7.3 assists per game.
»» Six players made their Saint Mary’s debut
in the season opener: Aaron Bright, Joe
Coleman, Calvin Hermanson, Jock Landale,
Emmett Naar and Desmond Simmons.
»» Senior forward Brad Waldow was a 1st
team all-WCC honoree last season and was
selected to the preseason team by league
coaches. SMC has placed multiple players on
the all-league team for the last eight seasons.
»» Senior guard Kerry Carter exploded out
of the gate with career highs in points (25),
rebounds (12) and 3-point field goals (7) for
his first career double-double in the season
opener against Cal State LA.
»» Redshirt freshman Emmett Naar did
something not even Matthew Dellavedova
did as a freshman, dish double-figures in
assists in a single game. He distributed 10 in
the Gaels’ win over Denver.
»» The Gaels have won 13-straight season
opening games, dating back to 2001-02.
SMC has also won 13-straight home openers
and 7-straight WCC openers.
Need To Know - About The Gaels
»» Perhaps the biggest loss from last year’s
team is Stephen Holt. The school’s 10thleading career scorer, the 1st team all-WCC
guard is currently playing for the Canton
Charge of the NBA’s D-League after spending
summer league with the Atlanta Hawks and
training camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
»» Other losses from last season include:
guards Jordan Giusti, Paul McCoy and James
Walker III, forwards Beau Levesque and Eividas Petrulis and center Matthew Hodgson.

SMC To Renovate McKeon Pavilion
Saint Mary’s announced last winter it plans
to build a new Student-Athlete Performance
Center and renovate McKeon Pavilion. The
$13 million project features dedicated facilities for varsity athletes, including a weight
room, training and on-site sports medicine
areas, a new volleyball locker room and
academic services area. The project will
also add approximately 500 seats to McKeon
Pavilion. The project was made possible by
a lead gift of $1 million from Kevin M. Nagel,
CEO of Envision Pharmaceutical Holdings
and minority owner of the Sacramento
Kings.

Aussies Under Bennett’s Reign
When Randy Bennett came to Moraga in
2001, he recruited Australian Adam Caporn
(2001-03) to fill a void at point guard.
Caporn helped bring SMC all-time leading
scorer Daniel Kickert (2002-06) to Moraga
in 2002, which then sparked the transfer of
Carlin Hughes (2007-09) and Lucas Walker
(2007-09) from Montana State-Billings. Ben
Allen (2008-10) joined the mix prior to the
2007-08 season when he transferred to SMC
from Indiana. Patrick Mills (2007-09) came
the same year, and Clint Steindl (2008-pres.)
made the trip across the Pacific Ocean prior
for the start of the 2008-09 campaign. Two
years ago, Matthew Dellavedova (2009pres), Jorden Page (2009-pres) and Mitchell
Young (2009-pres) joined the Gaels. Matt
Hodgson, Dane Pineau, Emmett Naar and
Jock Landale are the most recent Aussies to
join the team. Signees Kyle Clark and Tanner
Krebs will arrive next season.
