Canyonville Chamber of Commerce November 20, 2014 at El Paraiso Meeting was called to order by President Jake Young at 12:15. Last meeting minutes were read & approved. A motion was made to join the Riddle Chamber of Commerce for $35 (Judy 1st, Steve 2nd) and was approved. A $20,000 grant was received from the Lilja Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation for the Youth/Community Center project. Our project is in the 3rd round of the Ford Foundation grant and will be doing a walk-through on December 4th, which will be attended by several organization and community representatives supporting the project. Publicity recognizing the grantees was discussed, including newspapers and timing to possibly occur when Victory Builders begins the 1st Phase. Steve reported on the Ag program at SUHS, partnerships with colleges and the growth of the dual enrollment program. Dean reported the canned food drive for the Christmas boxes is starting, and expecting 155 this year. The fire department will be doing toys. Hillside Church’s Thanksgiving Dinner will be in both Canyonville & Riddle and flyers are up. They will also be doing Christmas baskets. The Church is doing a free soup lunch in Pioneer Park, Wednesdays from 11-1 pm for the next 6 months. Jake has submitted his last Chamber column to the News Review. The Christmas Tree Lighting is Friday, December 5th at 5:00 pm in the lot between Ken’s Sidewalk Café & Canyonville Cigars and Cigarettes. Nominations were closed for the Chamber’s 2015 Board. Voting to elect those nominated was unanimous. President – Jim Siegel, Vice President – Judy Coleman, Secretary/Treasurer – Debbie Hopkins. Jake will remain on the Board as Past President. The 2015 meeting schedule for January, February & March was distributed. Jenny distributed flyers for CASA of Douglas County, which is collecting pajamas for foster children. A ‘Slumber Party’ Donation Day is Friday, December 5 th to bring the new PJ’s. Jenny distributed information to nominate for the Wish Upon a Star program to grant lifechanging wishes to our community members who need it most. Nominations can be submitted at umpquabank.com/wish.
