one month in advance. Baptism Instruction held the

Christian Marriage
The couple should contact a parish priest or deacon one
year before the desired date for the marriage to ensure
proper preparation for the Sacrament. Couples are not
to make FIRM plans for the reception PRIOR to
speaking with a parish priest or deacon.
Sacraments for the Sick/Homebound
Anointing: Anytime upon request in the home of the sick.
Communion: A Priest, Deacon or Eucharistic Minister of
the parish will bring Holy Communion to those
parishioners confined to home. Please notify the
Rectory when someone is ill or admitted to the hospital.

A Word from the Pastor …
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe – the last Sunday of the liturgical year. It
was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI through the Encyclical Letter “Quas Primas.” After stating that “as long as individuals and states refuse to submit to the rule of our Savior, there would be no really hopeful prospect of a lasting
peace among nations,” the Holy Father observed in the institution of this Solemnity “the increasing zeal of the Church
for the spread of the kingdom of her Spouse to the most far distant regions of the world.”
It has often been said that you can tell the faith of a people by the zeal of its shepherds. Today is the 87 th anniversary
of the execution of a dear son of the Church who remains a shining example of priestly fervor and love of Christ, the
King of the Universe. Miguel A. Pro, S.J. (1891-1927) was a young Mexican priest who after his ordination in Belgium
served his people in Mexico during a fierce persecution of the Catholic Church. Trumped up accusations were fabricated against him, and he was condemned to be executed on November 23, 1927.
Pictures of the execution were taken, because government officials wanted to show the
international media how cowardly priests would act when faced with imminent death.
However, Father Pro very bravely stepped up before the firing squad, rejected the blindfold he was offered, forgave his executioners, stretched out his arms and boldly shouted,
"Viva Cristo Rey!" (Long live Christ the King!). Then he was riddled with bullets. The volley of gunfire did not kill him, so a single shot was fired into his temple. Because he had
faced death so bravely, there was an order to suppress the execution photos, but some of
them got out, including the two reproduced here: one taken the morning of his execution, and the other just a few seconds before Fr. Miguel gave witness to his love of Christ.
The funeral for Father Pro was huge, with people openly praying the rosary and shouting
"Viva Cristo Rey!" as the procession passed through the streets, at a time when any form
of public manifestation of the faith was absolutely forbidden in Mexico.
In his beatification homily in 1988, Pope (now St.) John Paul II
said of Blessed Miguel Pro, “Neither suffering nor serious illness, neither the exhausting ministerial activity, frequently
carried out in difficult and dangerous circumstances, could
stifle the radiating and contagious joy which he brought to his
life for Christ and which nothing could take away. Indeed, the

deepest root of self-sacrificing surrender for the lowly was
his passionate love for Jesus Christ and his ardent desire to
be conformed to Him, even unto death.”
Yet Fr. Miguel Pro was not the only person to demonstrate such fearless faith. A movie released two years ago, “For Greater Glory,” recounts the struggle of several Christians (called
Cristeros) who stood up to the tyranny that sought to undermine the Catholic Church. I
definitely recommend it as a Christmas gift.
It is heartening to see that in Mexico, a land where so many suffered tremendously to uphold the Catholic Faith, the
Church is alive and well a century later. Some dioceses there have seminaries full of young men pursuing the priesthood. When asked what inspired them to respond to the vocation, many mention the witness of those who died defending the Faith. As Scripture reminds us, the blood of the martyrs still speaks to us most eloquently.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
It is difficult to imagine children and their families
spending Thanksgiving out on the street without a safe and
warm place to sleep. Sadly, this would be a harsh reality for
many in our community if it were not for the assistance provided by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark.
For over 100 years, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark has provided relief to so many families
within the four counties it serves. Catholic Charities operates seven shelters which provide a safe, caring, respectful,
and dignified refuge for our homeless brothers and sisters.
Your support of the Annual Appeal makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those served by Catholic
Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark. Through your generosity to the Annual Appeal, Catholic Charities is able to
continue their tradition of compassion and concern for each
individual who walks through their door.

ornament and return the unwrapped gift, with tag attached,

The gifts can be returned by placing them under the tree in Church
or by bringing them to the Rectory. All gifts are given to parish families in need.

Pope Francis at General Audience:
Every State of Life can lead to Holiness
Pope Francis dedicated his
catechesis at this Wednesday’s General Audience to the universal vocation to sanctity, providing an answer
to the question, “In what does this
universal vocation consist? And how
can we fulfil it?”
“Firstly, we must take into
account that sanctity is not something that we procure, that we obtain ourselves through our qualities
and capacities. Sanctity is a gift, it is
the gift that the Lord Jesus gives to
us, when He takes us with Him and clothes us in Himself, making us like Him,” he said. “Sanctity is the most
beautiful face of the Church: it is rediscovering oneself in communion with God, in the fullness of His life and
His love. … It is not the prerogative of the few: sanctity is a gift that is offered to all, without exclusion, and
which therefore constitutes the distinctive characteristic of every Christian.”
“To be holy,” he continued, “it is not necessary to be bishops, priests or religious. … We are all called to
be holy! … It is by living with live and offering one's own Christian witness in our everyday occupations that we
are called to become holy; and each person in the condition and in the state of life in which he finds himself”:
consecrated persons, married couples, unmarried baptised persons, parents, grandparents, catechists, educators
and volunteers. “Every state of life leads to sanctity, if lived in communion with the Lord and in the service of
one's brethren.”
Pope Francis, who on Monday confirmed that he will be participating in the World Day of the Family
celebrations in Philadelphia in September 2015, urged those present to examine their consciences, asking how
they could respond to the Lord's call to holiness. He emphasized that when the Lord calls us to be holy, he does
not ask us to do something weighty or sad, but rather offers us an invitation to share in his joy. “If we understand it in this way, everything changes and acquires a new meaning, beautiful, starting from the little things of
everyday life. … And each step towards sanctity will make us better people, free of selfishness and selfcentredness, and open to our brothers and their needs”. He added, “we do not walk the path of sanctity alone,
each for himself, but rather together, in that single body that is the Church, loved and sanctified by the Lord Jesus Christ,” and concluded by encouraging those present to continue on this path.
THE ARCHBISHOP JOHN J. MYERS ANNUAL LECTURE SERIES ON LAW, SOCIETY AND FAITH
Noted theologian Dr. Regis Martin sheds light and hope on the nature of a “fallen world” for the
Archbishop John J. Myers Lecture Series with “Still Point: Loss, Longing, and our Search for God.”
The second annual lecture series continues on Wednesday December 3 at 5PM in Jubilee Hall
Auditorium, Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Avenue. All are welcome and admission is free;

Regis Martin is a professor of theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, where he
has taught for the past twenty-five years. He studied in Rome at the Angelicum and graduated summa
cum laude in 1988 with a doctorate in sacred theology.

Season of Advent and prepare for Christmas. Offerings

of the Church are available for you to take home.
During the weekend liturgies this Advent,
families and individuals are invited to approach the altar right after the beginning
of Mass to light the candles on the Advent
Wreath. If you wish to volunteer to light
the wreath at a particular Mass, please

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK. . .
Thanksgiving is a very unique American holiday. It acknowledges the tenacity and bravery of a
small band of adventurous colonists seeking religious
freedom in an unknown land. Despite their many
challenges, they survived. In thanksgiving to God they
celebrated and shared what little they had with the
Native Americans. As a result, Thanksgiving Day has
become a national tradition.
On Wednesday, November 26, St. Peter
School will participate in their annual Thanksgiving
Prayer Service. Our students collected food items for
the food pantry. Our students are sharing with others
as the Pilgrims and Native Americans did on that First
Thanksgiving. They are following in the footsteps of
the Master Teacher, Jesus.
As we prepare for the holiday let us give
thanks to God for His goodness and His loving care in
the ordinary things of life. Thanksgiving Blessings

EL REBAÑO DE JESÚS
Las ovejas son animales que necesitan mucha atención. No son muy inteligentes. Especialmente en un clima como el de Israel, morirían rápidamente a causa de
predadores, hambre o por su lentitud. La imagen bíblica
de nosotros como el rebaño del Señor no es halagadora
porque solamente con la vigilancia constante del pastor
cuidadoso el rebaño puede sobrevivir.
La institución de la fiesta de Cristo Rey fue motivada
por la intención de llevar el mundo a Cristo como el único poder de este mundo; y también de hacer volver el
rebaño dispersado por las tantas fuerzas negativas del
creciente mundo industrial y científico, desgarrado por la
guerra, del siglo veinte. Mientras celebramos a Cristo
Rey, es muy apropiado entender que el Cristo Pastor nos
cuida ahora y va a estar presente en el momento de la
separación de buenos y malos en el juicio final. Como el

HACIENDO UNA DIFERENCIA
Es difícil imaginar a niños y sus familias pasando el
Día de Acción de Gracias en la calle sin un lugar seguro y
acogedor donde dormir. Por desgracia, esto sería una dura
realidad para muchos en nuestra comunidad si no fuera por
la ayuda brindada por Caridades Católicas de la
Arquidiócesis de Newark.
Durante más de 100 años, Caridades Católicas de
la Arquidiócesis de Newark ha proporcionado ayuda a
muchas familias en los cuatro condados que sirve.
Caridades Católicas opera siete refugios que proveen un
ambiente seguro y amable, un refugio respetuoso y digno
para nuestros hermanos y hermanas sin hogar.
Su apoyo al Llamado Anual hace una diferencia
significativa en las vidas de aquellos beneficiados por
Caridades Católicas de la Arquidiócesis de Newark. A través
de su generosidad con el Llamado Anual, Caridades
Católicas es capaz de continuar su tradición de compasión y
preocupación por cada persona que llega a su puerta.

DIA DE ACCION DE GRACIA
Invitamos a todos los feligreses a
participar en la Misa bilingue el
dia de Accion de Gracia, jueves
27 de noviembre a las 9 a.m.
Durante el ofertorio, los
feligreses pueden presenter latas
de comida que serán donados a
St. Peter’s Food Pantry. Al final
de la Misa compartiremos pan
que se puedran llevar a casa para
la cena.
HORARIO DE NOVIEMBRE PARA LA
DISPENSA DE ALIMENTOS
(FOOD PANTRY)
La distribución de alimentos para el día de Acción de
Gracias será el miércoles 26 de Noviembre desde las 10
AM hasta las 12 del mediodía.
No habrá entrega de alimentos el día viernes 28 de Noviembre.
ARBOL QUE DA (GIVING TREE )
El Giving Tree de San Pedro ya estará listo en la Iglesia comenzando
el fin de semana del 29—30 de Noviembre. Todos los feligreses están
invitados a tomar un adorno del
árbol, comprar el regalo especificado
en el adorno, y devolver el regalo sin
envolver junto con la etiqueta antes
del Miércoles 10 de Diciembre. Los
regalos deberán ser dejados debajo
del árbol en la Iglesia o podrán llevarlos a la Rectoría. Todos los regalos se entregaran a
familias necesitadas de la parroquia.
ESPOSAS CON CRISTO
Te sientes sola? Estas Triste? Estas abrumada? No Sabes lo que Dios espera de ti?
No te preocupes ven a desahogarte o a
compartir tus experiencias con otras esposas que buscan la ayuda de Dios los días
