21 Nov - Hurunui College
Our mid-term Board of Trustees election voting closes on Friday at 12 noon. It was wonderful to get four nominations for the positions and we wish them all the best in the final count. It is important that you take the opportunity to vote and consider each candidate carefully. The Board of Trustees serves an important role within the school and for the community. Voting papers are to be returned to the school office or via mail using the self-addressed envelope included with the voting papers. As the year seems to very rapidly be drawing to a close there is still a lot going on in the school over the final three weeks. Our Year 9 and 10 students have been busy over the last couple of days working alongside local researchers doing sampling and flow testing on the Waitohi River. This base line data will be used to give a reference point for future research and analysis. Tomorrow also marks the start of internal exams for year 9and 10 students. These exams will run into next week and will provide important information for end of year reports, while also providing important information about their needs and abilities going into next year. Year 10 are also building toward their tramp and will be walking from Windy Point through to Lake Taylor via the Hope Kiwi Saddle and Lodge. Parents of students in this class should have already received a letter home with associated consent, and a gear list should have arrived yesterday. The students will be in food groups for this trip and will be required to plan their menus and provide and cook the food as planned. We hope to complete this before the weekend to ensure families have time to work through the list and purchase any additional items. Let‟s hope the run of cold weather starts to warm up, as a dip in the lake to finish the trip seems a long way off. On the run to the end of term there are a number of other trips going on with Canterbury Primary Athletics on the 3rd December, the Year 7 and 8 classes heading out for the day on 4th December and Kowhai class taking off on their mystery trip on the 5th December. The last week of term starts with the Amuri sporting exchange on Monday 8th, the full school picnic to Hanmer Springs on the 9th and then we finish the year on the Thursday 11th December with the school prize giving starting at 10.30am, finishing around 1pm with buses hopefully departing by 1.15pm. It certainly is going to be a frantic but enjoyable run through to the end of year, and if I am correct only 33 sleeps until the jolly man in the red suit comes sliding down the chimney. Nāku noa, nā Stephen Beck Principal Right The SPEC students recently invited some staff to morning tea as a thank you and end of year celebration. Brodie Shepherd decorated his cake as an Otis Elevator. Marketing Manager Shane Adcock says the passes are about recognising the pools‟ special relationship with its local community. “We‟re under no illusion as to how important Hurunui residents are to our business and it‟s always great seeing locals come through our doors. We‟ve always felt those who live in the Hurunui are as proud of the pools and spa as we are of being part of this special place.” The Annual Swim Pass allows families (two adults and their dependent children who‟re aged under 18 and live at home) to visit the pools as often as they like until 31 December 2015.
