FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Thank you to those parents and friends of the school who attended
our Senior Prize Giving on Wednesday 5 November. This annual school
event gives us the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the academic
achievements of our Yr 11-13 students as well as farewelling our Yr 13
students from the school.
Special thanks to our Junior Haka group and Dunstanza for their Brent Russell
respective contribution to the evening’s entertainment.

Scientists Visit Dunstan
from Otago University come and speak to them recently. Dr Anita Dunbier an ex pupil discussed her research on
“exploring the genome to conquer cancer”, and the other three women also shared their ground breaking research
with our pupils. Our pupils were inspired and engaged and managed to keep the academics long after their talks
by asking many questions.

Junior Speech Competition were a chance for a formidable few to battle it out. Speeches had been assessed

Every year the standard seems to improve and this year was no exception, making judging, for Alan Whitaker,

Junior Review
A small team of junior students have volunteered to present PB4L ideas to their peers. In Assembly
this week, Shelby Davidson and Sophie Williamson presented the group’s review on what PB4L
means to juniors. The team went around school videoing juniors doing the
‘right thing’ and interviewing them on what PB4L is all about.
We saw doors being opened, litter binned, honest
behaviour and friends respecting each other.
The juniors had fun, joined in and persevered to complete
the task. They commented on how challenging the job

was and how they now appreciate the behind-the-scenes
hard work that the seniors have done.
This week, the team is going to complete a presentation on caring for our
school, being tidy and respecting the environment.
Mr Russell also spoke at Assembly to remind students to continue to do their
stage, and be respectful in their everyday dealings with others and in the classroom.

School Community Consultation 2014
DHS is conducting its bi-annual Health Education Programme Review, as required by the Ministry
of Education. This is an opportunity for all parents/caregivers of current DHS students, parents
of future DHS students, and other interested persons within our community to comment on our
Health programmes.
An explanation of Health programmes at DHS is available for viewing online on the DHS Ultranet
page at dunstan.ultranet.school.nz. Click on “Health Consultation 2014” on the left hand side of
the page. Once there you can view the material, and participate in a very short survey, (follow the
