Billings Store Leader Todd Anderson of Scheels presented a check for $333,333.33 to YMCA CEO
Tina Postel for the renovation of the Family Locker Room at the Billings Family YMCA. The money
is meant as a 1 to 1 challenge for the Y to raise matching funds to complete Phase Two of the
Y’s $2.5 million dollar capital campaign. Phase Two of the campaign includes the renovation of
the Fortin Family Youth Center and the Scheels Family Locker Room.
“Scheels is happy to support great causes in all of the communities where we have stores,” said
Todd Anderson. “The Y is a 100-year-old organization with an impressive track record of
providing healthy programs for children and families in this community; we’re pleased to be able
help with the renovation and to add the Scheels name to the Family Locker Room, he added.
“Let’s build a place for our families and children to grow and thrive,” said Mistie Mims, YMCA
Development Director. “To date, the Y has matched $282,700 toward the generous Scheels
challenge and we’re anticipating more donations to come in before the end of this fiscal year,”
she added.

“The Y is so much more than just a swim & gym health club, we impact the lives of more than
10% of the entire community and are excited about the second phase of our capital campaign to
make our facility more user friendly for our families and children,” said Tina Postel.
In November, the Y completed the first phase of the capital campaign, a $1.9 million dollar
renovation of the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
The renovation included an expanded men’s locker room on the 2nd floor and a larger women’s
locker room on the north side of the 1st floor. Each of the locker rooms has more than 900
lockers, larger steam rooms, dry saunas and whirlpools.
The completed renovation also made major improvements to the 1st floor Health Studio and
creation of a new group exercise room on the 2nd floor.
Karen Sanford Gall and Randy Scott are serving as co-chairs of the capital campaign which has
already raised more than $1,636,700 in donations and pledges.
“Various areas of the Y have been named in honor of families and businesses that made lead
gifts to the campaign,” said Randy Scott. In addition to the Scheels Family Locker Room,
named areas include: Andrew Youlden ChildWatch, Atwell-Link Cardio Studio, Underriner
Family Playground, Corning Family Fitness Center, First Interstate Bank Lap Pool, G.L. Daniel
Hot Tub, the McDonald Family Deep Pool, Preston Family Lobby, and the Mary & Bruce
Crippen Wellness Studio.
“We understand the importance of maintaining quality programs and services for our
members, families and the community; we are very pleased with the renovations of our adult
locker rooms and now look forward to finishing the family locker rooms and creating a better
place for our kids,” said campaign co-chair Karen Stanford Gall.
