DT LONDON RESIDENTIAL
13 AS & A2 DT students spent three days in
London for a Design Trip under the expert
guidance of Mr Luckhurst. During their visit
the students undertook a series of design
and research tasks in the Science, Design
and Brunel Museums. The study exercise in
the Design Museum, handling and drawing a
range of iconic lamps, has set up students
for their next Task Lamp design exercise.
Students also attended a programme of
lectures at London University by five
successful designers who entertained and
informed the students as they explored and
illustrated critical design issues in a variety of
fields. These ranged from fashion design and
affordable housing to environmentally
friendly bicycle helmets and bespoke luxury
products. Thank you to Mr Luckhurst for
giving up the time to take the students on
this inspiring visit.
BRILLIANT EXAM RESULTS –
OFFICIAL!
We have now received the annual
Government analysis which compares our
examination results this year with those
of schools across the whole country. I
am delighted that our GCSE results show
that the progress and attainment of that
year group was significantly above national
averages. Many congratulations to all last
year’s Year 11.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
TRIUMPH
We have seen many extraordinary
productions at the College over the years
and this year’s production of Jesus Christ
Superstar has certainly taken us to new
heights. I have received many comments
from members of the audience about how
this year’s production moved them quite
literally to tears such was its emotional
power.
Many congratulations to all of the cast and
crew and many thanks to Mr Lewis, Miss
Mitchell, Mr Johnson and Mr Courtice for
directing drama and music of such power.
TEN TORS TRAINING
This season’s exploration of the Moor has
got off to an excellent start. Over 75
students have now been to the Moor in two
weekends as well as on some initial coastal
walks. Our Ten Tors training and outdoor
education is now under the direction of Miss
Renshaw and Mr Mann and I am very
grateful to them and their team of staff and
other helpers for offering our students this
wonderful experience.

FLOODLIGHTS ON THE
ARTIFICIAL TURF PITCH
PRE-PUBLIC EXAMS
Our floodlights have been out of action
since the recent storms which caused
some damage to one column. We are
having a programme of work to improve
the strength of the installation and ensure
that this does not happen again. Our
contractor should have this finished by
the end of January and we are very sorry
for the inconvenience that this has caused
to our users.
These important exams take place during
the Spring Term:
Years 12-13
These take place during
the week 12-16th January 2015. Details of
the
timetable are posted on
the College website.
Year 11
These take place between
Thursday 5th February and Thursday, 12th
February.
Again, details of the
timetable are posted on the College
website.
YEAR 8 PARENTS’ EVENING
AND COURSE SELECTION
FAIR
We all want these examinations to provide a
clear picture of your son/daughter’s
progress so it is very important that
students prepare well. Teachers will be
given advice about revision and practice
papers to help students prepare. There is
lots of practical support, advice and revision
materials on our FROG Virtual Learning
Environment: do encourage your children to
access these.
This takes place on Thursday, 29th January
2015. This will be an opportunity for you
and your son/daughter to find out
important information about Course
Choices for Key Stage 4. We hope to see
you there.

YEAR 13
WINNERS
SOUTH
PHOTOGRAPHY
THE CATWALK
DEVON
TAKES
TO
Professional fashion photographer, Eliot
Seagal, spent a day in College running
workshops for Year 12 Photography
students. Our Governor, Nick Grodhunce,
arranged for professional hairdressers to
come and style students’ hair and local
businesses lent them gowns and costumes
for the shoot. Seeing clusters of students
taking multiple shots of glamorous models
on exotic sets made our College hall
suddenly seem like catwalk at London
Fashion Week! The resulting work is of
such high quality I am sure we shall be
seeing some of our students working for
Vogue before too long.
Many congratulations to the Year 13 Rugby
Squad who have completed their College
rugby careers as the South Devon
Tournament Winners. They beat South
Dartmoor 33-7, then Churston Grammar
57-0, Devon High School for Boys
Grammar 44-0, before beating Torquay
Boys Grammar 22-0.
Congratulations to all the squad for this
great climax to their superb seven years of
rugby playing at the College!

LEARNING CAFÉ DOING
THRIVING BUSINESS
Since half-term we have been running a
Learning Café on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays for Year 11 students. As soon
as the day ends we have been offering them
free hot and cold refreshments and hot
drinks before they then spend an hour in
revision or catch-up sessions in various
subjects. Monday is Technology, Science,
Art, Drama and Study Support; Tuesday
Art, RE, Maths, History and Study Support;
Wednesday Geography, Art, English and
Study Support.
Between 50 and 75
students have been attending regularly and
this is having a huge impact on their
progress. Make sure you sign up and attend
next term if you are in Year 11!
CABOURG PLEA FOR A PEN
PAL
Salcombe Town Council have received a
request from the organiser of the Cabourg
Twinning Committee, the town twinned
with Salcombe, for an English penpal. Liam
Petre is 14 years old and attends Collège
Marcel Proust. He has been studying English
for 4 years and has a variety of activities
and interests outside of school: he enjoys
science, music (playing guitar and bass) and
information technology and loves sailing
catamarans.
ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP
If your son/daughter is interested in
becoming Liam’s penpal, Wendy Ohlson,
Assistant Principal at the College, who will
put you in touch with our contact on the
Council.
Good luck to all the students who are going
to London to visit Art galleries on Thursday
– with over 140 are on the trip, this is
Kingsbridge hits London culture big time!
