ANNOUNCEMENTS 12/18/14 *Our swim team takes on Spring Hill tonight @ Oakland High @ 6pm. *REMINDER: Tomorrow is a 2 hour day. Attendance will be taken. Buchanan last night! *If you need a last minute Christmas gift, spiritwear will be on sale today & tomorrow (while supplies last). *Tickets to the production ”Transyl‐mania!” that will be put on for students @ 8:15am this Friday, Dec. 19th will be on sale during lunch for $2. It will also be put on Friday evening @ 6:30pm for the general public. The cost will be $5 at the door. 12/15/14 *Please congratulate our swim team. They won against all competitors last Thursday and this past Saturday, the girls placed 3rd and the boys placed 8th out of 38 teams. This is the 1st time our swimmers placed in the top 10 in this event. There were 11 school records broken, including 4 relay records. *Our wrestlers placed 3rd in their conference finals this past weekend. *There is a home basketball game tonight against Whitworth‐Buchanan. The JV game starts @ 4pm and varsity @ 6pm. Please come and show your support. 12/12/14 *nothing new to report* 12/11/14 *There is a band concert here tonight @ 6:30pm. Band members need to be here by 6. *Tomorrow is hat day. Be sure to bring your dollar to guidance tomorrow morning by 8am for a stamp if you would like to wear a hat for Parris. *Also, beginning today through Thursday, all proceeds from slushy sales will be going to Parris. 12/10/14 *Beta members: There is a mandatory meeting after school today. *18 of our band members participated in Mid‐State competition this past Saturday. Of the 18, 8 of them made it. Congratulations! *THIS Friday is Wear a Hat for Parris Day. Bring in $1 by this Friday morning to get a stamp in your agenda giving you permission to wear a hat this friday. All proceeds will go towards her medical treatment. *The play ”Transyl‐mania!” will be put on for students on Friday, 12/19 @ 8:15am. The cost is $2 and tickets will be sold during lunch. The last day to buy them is Monday. 12/09/14 *Congratulations to our boys & girls basketball players on their wins last night! *FYI – The items in lost & found will be donated to Goodwill this Friday! If you’re missing something, please check the lost & found ASAP!!! 12/08/14 *Tonight is our OMS BBQ Dinner & Holiday Marketplace from 5‐7:30pm. There is also a basketball game. JV is @ 4pm & varsity is @ 6pm. *Spiritwear is available for pick up in the concession stand during the lunch period. *Our swim team won against Central! (The boys 96 to 43 & girls 94 to 46!) Some of our swimmers even broke school records! *There is a drama meeting til 5:30pm this afternoon. All lines must be memorized. *The band concert is this Thursday, Dec. 11 @ 6:30pm. Band members need to be here by 6! *The boys bathroom by the gym is closed til further notice. *Students: If you witness something that should be reported, report it, please! ‐Do the right thing because it is the right thing to do!‐ 12/05/14 *One of our OMS Chargers is battling leukemia. We want to do all we can to help and show that we care about her and wish her well. CCA will be doing a hat day in her honor. You can purchase a stamp to wear a hat next Friday, December 12th . We will be selling stamps for $1 from Monday through Friday morning. In addition, all slushy sales from Dec. 12‐18th will go to help her, as well. We know OMS is a compassionate family of people that will rally to take care of our OMS family members. ALSO, THE SONIC ON MIDDLE TENNESSEE BLVD. IS GIVING 10% OF THEIR SALES AND EMILY, A CARHOP THERE, IS GIVING 100% OF HER TIPS TODAY, DECEMBER 5TH . Our boys won. *OMS & Central Magnet, the top 2 swim teams in the county, will compete tonight @ OHS @ 5:50pm. Please come out and support our swimmers. 12/03/14 * Depending upon which grade you are in, please bring the following for the BBQ dinner by this Fri., Dec. 5: 6th – pies 7th – individual bags of chips 8th – canned drinks The students with the most participation will win free ice cream and the teacher with the most participation will win lunch from the restaurant of their choosing. 12/02/14 *There is a choir concert here tonight @ 6:30pm. The boys won 58 to 25 and the girls won 34 to 2. *Congratulations to Mrs. Chumley’s 1st period class for winning the box top competition! We raised $640 for OMS. Please continue to collect box tops from items at home. Our next competition will be in January. Clip and save your box tops for a chance to win a pizza party for your 1st period class. *The OMS Night @ MTSU basketball game will be Nov. 25th. Tickets go on sale Nov. 17th. 11/10/14 *There is a Boys & Girls Club book drive going on until Nov. 21. The top 3 homerooms will get a $25 voucher to the book fair. Those who donate books will be entered in a drawing for other prizes. *All drama peeps need to stay after school today. Backstage crew, you will need to be picked up by 5pm. Please reference your sources. *Our wrestling team beat Siegel last night 54 to 36 but lost their duel with Blackman. *Progress reports will be going home next Tues., Nov. 11. *You should have received information on the Thanksgiving lunch and the Charger Tree today. 11/03/14 *All actors are to stay today (Monday, November 3rd) until 5pm. There is NO Drama on Thursday, November 6. All current drama club members are expected at the meeting on Monday, November 10th until 5pm. Backstage crew will begin working on the set design and actor will rehearse in the auditorium. As with EVERY drama meeting, stay in your class until they call for all remaining students. *Baseball conditioning starts today, after school, til 4:30. Please meet in the cafeteria when all remaining students are dismissed. They will continue every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, hereafter. *Bowling tryouts will be Nov 6 til 5pm. You will need all athletic forms and an up‐to‐date physical to tryout. The cost is $5. *Conditioning for boys soccer will begin this Thursday, November 6th, between 3:20 and 4:00 PM and continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time through the end of the semester. They will meet outside of the library. Be sure to bring shoes suitable for running and clothing appropriate to the weather. All students are welcome to attend. *The navy swim team won over the red swim team 160 to 142. Also, remember, dress code must be followed. *Picture day is tomorrow. 10/22/14 *If you earned a Charger card but didn’t receive it, bring your report card (or a copy) to the Renaissance table in the CAFETERIA during lunch. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Spintzyk in room 706. * Congratulations to our cross country team for qualifying for state this weekend. * Good luck to our tennis team as they compete in their tournament tomorrow and Thursday. 10/13/14 *OUR ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE STARTS TODAY! The goal is to have every student bring in at least 3 items. However, if a student brings in 10 or more items, he/she will receive a slushie coupon. The class in each grade that brings in the most items will win a pizza party. The class that brings in the most overall will be deciding the pancake topping and Halloween costume for Officer Dodson. The grade that brings in the most items will have a movie day on the early dismissal day, October 28th. * Golf tryouts have been cancelled for today due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon. They have been rescheduled for this Wednesday, Oct. 15 @ 4:30pm and will be held at Old Fort golf course. You must have an up‐to‐date physical, as well as all your other sports forms filled out, in order to try out. These forms can be found on the bottom left of our Athletics web page. 10/03/14 *Next week, Oct. 6th‐10th, is Fall Break! Have a great one! See you back Monday, Oct. 13th! * Oct. 13‐17 is National School Lunch Week. Each day, we will have something new for the students such as word puzzles, coloring contest and trivia. On Tuesday, October 14th , each student and teacher that eats lunch with us will get their name into a drawing and a prize will be given out to one lucky student and one lucky teacher. It will be a computer generated random drawing. Winners will be announced on Wednesday’s announcements. 10/02/14 * REMINDER: Tryouts for boys basketball will be this afternoon from 3:15‐4:45pm. You must have all your paperwork, including an up‐to‐date physical, to try out. The documents can be found on our website on the bottom left of our Athletics page. * Our box top competition starts this week! The 1st period class that turns in the most box tops wins a pizza party. You can help raise money for Oakland Middle by collecting box tops from items in your pantry at home, such as fruit snacks and cereal. Box tops can be turned in to Mrs. McAlexander in room 611. Our fall competition will end on Wednesday, Oct. 29th. * Open gym begins Oct. 13 and will be open Mon.‐Thur. from 6‐8:30pm. * Tryouts for wrestling will be Wednesday, Oct. 15. The admission is free. Come out and support your Lady Chargers! * Last night, during the Siegel Stomp Out, our Chargers football team won 36‐12 over the Siegel Cavaliers, bringing them to 6 & 2 for the season, having won 5 games in a row. 09/30/14 * Tonight is the Siegel Stomp Out. Students will need to be picked up from the game at Siegel High School football field by 7:15pm. The game begins at 6pm. * Chargers Changing Attitudes (CCA) is looking for members. If you are interested in being involved with an awesome club, come by guidance for an application. You can pick up an application in guidance all this week. We will be hosting Blackman @ home on the OHS football field next Wed., Sept. 24, at 6:00pm. There will be a box in the slushie area before school and during lunch Monday, Sept. 15 & Tuesday, Sept. 16. * The girls soccer team will be playing Siegel on Saturday, Sept. 20 @ 7pm at the Oakland High School football field. It will be a very important game and fun to watch. Admission will be a box of prepackaged, individually wrapped snacks. All proceeds will benefit the Rutherford County Atlas program. 09/10/14 * Audition call backs are posted outside of room 706. Please come by and check the list and grab your script. Call back auditions are tomorrow, Sept. 11, from 3‐5. It is an early release day, so be back to school by 3pm and have your ride pick you up NO LATER than 5pm. * For anyone interested in being a basketball cheerleader, there will be a mandatory parent meeting Monday, Sept. 15@ 5:30pm. * Everyone should have had a chance to look at their progress report and see what their grades are, currently. If you are happy with your grades, keep working hard. If not, talk to your teachers and see what you can do to do better. You still have time before report cards come out to bring your grades up to where you want them to be. * Last night, our OMS Chargers football team beat the Stewarts Creek Falcons 24 to 0, bringing us to 3 and 2. There will be a home game against Christiana next Tuesday night at 6:00pm. Come out and support your Chargers football team. 09/09/14 * Information regarding the Siegel Stomp‐Out, which will be Tuesday, Sept. 30th, was sent home yesterday during 7th period. The cost is $30 and covers food, transportation to the game, ticket into the game, and a SSO t‐shirt. Students will need to be picked up from the game at Siegel High School football field by 7:15pm. Please return completed forms to Ms. Dillman. She will be at the end of the 900 hallway collecting them from 7:30‐7:55am for the rest of this week and Monday of next week. The deadline for turning them in is Monday, Sept 15. If you aren’t planning to participate but would still like a t‐shirt, please turn your order in by this date, as well. All forms MUST be turned in by then, as no extras will be ordered. There will be no exceptions or extensions to this deadline. 09/08/14 * Anyone interested in trying out for archery needs to pick up a tryout packet in room 414. Tryouts will be Wednesday, September 24 @ 3:15pm in the cafeteria. All new swimmers need to see Coach Brewer today. 09/04/14 * ATTENTION: 7th & 8th graders interested in trying out for the swim team ‐ tryouts are tonight at the OHS pool. Please be there by 4:50 pm. You must have an up‐to‐date physical to try out. * STUDENTS: If you are at school prior to 7:45am, you must go directly to your designated area unless you’re eating breakfast. For those eating breakfast, you need to go as soon as you are done. The 6th graders need to report to the auditorium and the 7th & 8th graders, the gym. * Regarding schedule changes ‐ These were not done at random. The changes that have been made were so that you might achieve your best at the highest level. If you wear a sleeveless shirt to school, you will be asked to go to the front office to call someone to bring you a different shirt. You will need to wear a jacket or sweater over your shirt, if you have one with you, until someone arrives. * There is a TO BE NICE box for Renaissance. If you would like to say something nice to a fellow student, write it down and put it in the box. It just may be published in the school paper. It’s located in the main hall on top of the library book return. * On Thurs, Aug 28 @ 7:30am, there will be an Oakland Charger apparel sale at the end of the 900 hall. * Drama auditions will be Sept 8 from 3‐5, open to those who came to the interest meeting. * Any student that qualifies and is interested in joining the OMS Beta Club can go by Mr. Arnold (for 6th graders), Mrs. Hughes (for 7th graders), or Mrs Hopkins (for 8th graders) and pick up an application. Last year’s report card must be with your application in order to determine eligibility. Make sure you return the application and report card to a Beta sponsor by Sept 19th. * There will be a mandatory meeting for all Beta members after school next Thurs, Sept 4th from 3:15 to 4pm. This meeting is for all current members and potential members. The service learning projects and state convention will be discussed. Our goal is to sell 1000 items by Monday. If we meet this goal, Mr. Williamson will ride a girly bike with flares and bells around the whole school.
