Think Believe Aspire Dare Chadwell Primary School December 2014 Issue 6 Dear Parents and Carers, I find it hard to believe that I have already completed my first term at Chadwell. I have no idea where that time has gone but I know that it has been a very busy term: a weekend away with Year 5 & 6 pupils to Kingswood; Bike mobility week; bikers breakfast; Anti bullying week; the Big Shift week which concluded with the serving of hot chocolate on the Friday; most year groups boarded coaches to embark upon a school visit; the Armistice Day concert; the choir performing at another school and a home for elderly residents; our own sea of poppies on the school fence which made it into the local press; 2 Christmas concerts performed by Key Stage 1 and the Early Years; 2 pantomimes performed at school; the Christmas parties; the Christmas bazaar that was organised by the PTA and was well attended by parents; and while all this has been happening I’ve even found the time to meet and greet parents in the playground most afternoons and develop a new school website. But the thing I have enjoyed the most about my first term has been getting to know the children. Their warm welcome has really helped me to settle in very quickly as their new Headteacher at Chadwell. Many of them have been extremely patient with me while I learn their names and have appreciated that this is not a small task when there are over 500 names for me to learn. But I look forward to continuing with the mammoth task of learning their names in the spring term and finding out more about them. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a peaceful holiday, and Happy Christmas for those of you who celebrate. I look forward to seeing you all in the spring term. Chadwell has a brand new website!!! Over the last few months we have worked hard develop a new website that reflects our school community and showcases what we do at Chadwell . Our address is still the same:- www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk so make sure you check it out and let us know what you think. A fond farewell It is with great sadness that Chadwell will bid a fond farewell to 3 members of staff at the end of the term. Mrs Hunter has decided to take early retirement and focus on her other interests in life. She has been a dedicated member of the school team for 21 years. Her departure will be greatly felt across the school and we wish her the best of luck for the future. Mrs Wade has been a Midday Assistant at the school for many years. She too has decided to retire and focus on other interests. Chadwell wishes you all the best in starting the next chapter of your life. Miss Gourmley has been at the school for 4 years, arriving as a new teacher, and is now moving on to greater things as she embarks in a new role leading a staff team in the Early Years. I know that she will miss her class as much as they will miss her. Good luck Miss Gourmley in your new role. Packed Lunch consultation This month, Miss Cohen, Miss Gourmley and the School Council held a packed lunch policy consultation with parents to discuss how the school would like to further encourage children to adopt healthy eating habits. Lots of parents came to the two sessions and were able to share their opinions and also taste a few healthy snacks! We have heard the views of our pupils, our staff and our parents now and the packed lunch policy is in development so watch this space for updates. Christmas Bazaar This year’s Christmas bazaar was a great success. The PTA worked hard to organise this event. All their hard work and effort paid off as they managed to raise a grand total of £712.03. I would like to thank all the parents who came in and helped. Parent Forum Many of you will be aware that I have been hosting a Parents Forum for the last few months, on the first Friday of each month. The meetings enable parents to have a platform to discuss with myself matters of school improvement. Several parents have brought to my attention that it is difficult for them to attend meetings during the school day, due to work commitments. Therefore, I would like to suggest hosting an after school Parent Forum starting at 4.45pm. As with the morning meeting, there will be no crèche facilitates for school aged children but toddlers are welcome. The meeting will be held on a Thursday evening. I will trial it for a term to see what the uptake is like. So for your diary, the next Parent Forums will take place on Friday 9th January at 9.15am with the Road Safety team and on Thursday 15th January at 4.45pm, to discuss league tables and how to understand them within the wider context.
