Although I was not a member of her committee, her advisor welcomed my contribution. Dr. Torres is a former student and colleague of mine. I served on 8-10 other doctoral committees at East Texas State University, but do not have an accurate record of the names and topics, as I did not receive copies of the completed dissertations. Several were Educational Administration candidates who needed an Elementary Education faculty member. On a yearly basis at East Texas State University, I typically prepared 35-40 Master’s Degree Plans. Non-Refereed Publications or Other Creative Achievements When I left University teaching to work in the public schools, I had about twelve informally published course texts which had been duplicated for students over several years, but I made no attempt to seek formal publication since they were specifically designed for each section of a course taught. From 1993-2001, while I was a classroom teacher in elementary and middle school, I made no attempt to further revise those resources or to seek publication of the eleven articles or chapters that I had in various stages of development prior to returning to elementary school teaching. In 2001, when I returned to a role that involved teaching adults as an instructional specialist in the DISD Alternative Certification Department, I authored numerous presentations, usually in Powerpoint format and developed test preparation materials and other items that were needed. Because of the immediate and evolving nature of that training role, I made no attempt to document each item I created, although I have continued to use portions of the information I accessed and developed in training materials I continue to use in teaching and training as an adjunct professor in several types of programs. Consultant Presentations Since 1985, I have regularly and continuously provided TExES examination preparation for students, interns and others in workshops I was hired to conduct as a consultant, in private tutoring sought by individuals and small groups and within courses taught at undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate continuing education levels. Because of the frequency of these training sessions (usually at least three or four times a year), rather than list each instance, a listing of current tests for which I have conducted training appears below, followed by a list of content topics developed in workshops which extended over several days: Current TExES examinations for which I have conducted training 1985-present (either for the current test or its historical ExCET equivalent): 100 Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-4 101 Generalist EC-4 102 Bilingual Education Supplemental EC-4 103 Bilingual Generalist EC-4 104 English as a Second Language (ESL)/Generalist EC-4 110 Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities 4-8 111 Generalist 4-8 112 Bilingual Education Supplemental 4-8 119 Bilingual Generalist 4-8 120 English as a Second Language (ESL)/Generalist 4-8 130 Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities 8-12 157 Health EC-12 158 Physical Education EC-12 160 Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-12 161 Special Education EC-12 Specific Lecture Topics in Multiple Day Training Workshops: 17 Contrastive Phonology and Linguistics Terminology Theoretical Models and Related Research in Language Acquisition and Learning of NonNative Speakers ESL and Bilingual Approaches, Methods, Techniques and Program Models Problem-Solving Test-Taking Strategies Legal Requirements, Processes and Procedures for LEP Students in Texas Honors, Grants, and Fellowships TexTESOLer of the Year, 2010-2011. Memberships in Professional Societies Currently a member of Phi Delta Kappa, TexTESOL-V, TABE, ENABLE and BEAM, TESOL, NABE When I was a full-time University Faculty member I had memberships in various professional organizations: NABE, TABE, NCTE, TESOL, TexTESOL, ASCD, CEC, Phi Delta Kappa. After returning to the public school classroom and following retirement from the schools, I maintained active membership in Phi Delta Kappa and recently received a 30-year membership certificate. Other Community Outreach Achievements One Great Day of Reading, Silberstein Elementary School, DISD, Oct.19, 2007 When I was a full-time University Faculty Member, I had several such relationships and did some public service radio and television presentations relating to bilingual education. OTHER Significant Professional Development Activities Related to Program Development and Support In recent years, even though I was an adjunct faculty member, I actively sought information and resources and contributed specific content for proposal writing at Southern Methodist University. During the time I was a full-time University Faculty member at ETSU and prior to that time, as a doctoral student and program facilitator elsewhere, I was very actively involved in contributing to group efforts in writing grant proposals. The last year I was in the classroom, prior to becoming an instructional specialist, I prepared a proposal seeking funding for a school improvement grant that was funded for the school where I was working. The grant took effect the year after I left the school and contributed to improved test scores for the students. Significant Professional Development Activities Related to Professional Skills With regard to my personal professional development, I read widely and make extensive use of Internet resources. Whenever feasible I attend professional conferences such as the recent ones listed below: TWU 2013 Billie J. Askew Reading Recovery and Literacy Institute K-6, Dallas, 20 TX, November 5, 2013. Significant Professional Development Activities Related to Teaching All of the experiences listed in the preceding category have also influenced and improved my teaching. This curriculum vita does not request a listing of courses taught other than those taught at Texas Woman’s University. Over the years, I have taught a great variety of courses, at various levels and that experience greatly enhances my teaching and the ease with which I can accept new challenges in teaching. A brief listing of courses taught since my retirement in 2004 is indicative of this.
