Version 181214 MULGRAVE COUNTRY CLUB Editor: Sue Miller -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------18/12/14 Men's Singles Final The final of the Men's Singles will be between Alan Costello and Barrie Lester, at 6:30pm tonight, Thursday 18 December at 6:30pm. Come along and give your support for two worthy finalists in what promises to be a great game. Midweek Pennant After Round 12 our Tuesday teams are going very well. The ladies 1st Side have done extremely well, being in Premier Division for the first time. We are currently in 5th position on the ladder. This has certainly caused a few rattles at this level as most did not expect us to do very well. We are playing at a high standard and against many State players who have loads of experience. Certainly having Joyce come to the club has helped so much and with Gordana and Evelyn, we go in with a fair amount of experience from our skippers. # 2 Side has been a little disappointing but they are playing no 1 sides and have been close on a number of occasions. They are currently in 6th position. The team of the season so far has been our 3rd side. They have had outstanding results every week and are on top of the ladder. They have been well skippered by Di Quigley, Janet Morrison and Joy Smith. Our No 4 side is hanging in there and go out each week with a great attitude. Stick with it girls you can still make it. Our open sides have all performed well. The guys in our 1st open side are in top spot and going along really well. Norm, Phil and Dennis have the sides running well. These boys have some explaining to do after their performance on Tuesday night during the 12 days of Xmas!!!!!!!!!! Enough said, well done guys you gave us all a good laugh. The 2nds are also on top of the ladder and Mick, Max and Alan seem to have things under control. Well at times that is I think because they have girls in the side - 14 points plus up, plus 60 odd shots up. They are travelling nicely. The 3rds also going well and are 2nd on the ladder and we are looking forward to them playing finals as well. The fourths are having struggle but we are all hoping they can get themselves off the 9th spot. There is only 9points between 9th and 7th, so go to it after the break. The 5th side have surprised us all coming from the dead to 3rd. It is a great effort by all. It is difficult for this side as we are constantly changing it due to folk not available, so keep it up. We are trying to keep the side as stable as possible now with only 6 games left. The season to date has been fantastic for Tuesday players and it appears most people are happy (they must be as we aren't getting too many complaints). We start again on the 13 Jan 2015. Selection will be on 7th. So please enjoy the break, have wonderful festive season and we will catch up in the New Year. We are very pleased with the results so far this season and thank all bowlers for their contribution to date. We have one round left prior to the Christmas break. It would be good if all bowlers were able to be at the club after the game to reflect on the season so far and enjoy each other’s company. First game in January is the 17th. There will be an organised practice game on 10 January. Please place your name on the list in the Alcove if you will be in attendance. On January 1st there are some Bowls Rule changes. One of the main changes is that the score card is kept by the second of each team. Another is the bowls stickers (rings) on the bias side of the bowl cannot cover the World Bowl Stamp or serial number. The ‘dot’ may cover the small engraving in lieu of using the small ring. The selectors need to manage all bowlers to ensure that we select the best sides in an effort to reach and win in the finals. One of the tasks we have to do is ensure that we have sufficient bowlers qualified to fill all sides that compete in these finals. To achieve this we sometimes need to play bowlers for a minimum of four games in a level lower side. Bowls Victoria sets the “Rules for Competition” and one requirement which has a big impact upon selection covering the last four rounds is that no Side can include more than three players who have played the majority of their games, prior to the fourth last game, in a higher numbered side. (Anybody requiring further information of these requirements should make contact with one of the selectors). Peter Coe Chairman, Saturday Pennant -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------15/12/14 Ladies Singles Championship In a well fought out final of the ladies singles, Gordana Baric defeated Evelyn Martin to take the 2014/2015 championship. Novice Singles The 2014/15 Novice Singles winners were Lorraine Camm and Colin Ely. Lorraine beat Jan Dawson in the ladies final and Colin beat Frank Barlow in men's final. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------10/12/14 Pink Ribbon Happy Day One of the highlights of our social bowls season, Pink Ribbon Happy Day, will now be held on Saturday 3 January 2015 due to the inclement weather last Sunday. A major part of the day is fundraising for the Jane McGrath Foundation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mulgrave Country Club Breaking News Page 3 12/11/2014 Team App Update Do you have a smartphones or tablet? The Team App announced by Shane McCluskey at the AGM earlier this year has now been set up to link to team selection lists for each Pennant competition, as well as Breaking News. It is intended to send messages via Team App whenever any of these documents is updated so that you can be immediately informed of changes and events. The message function will also be used to send messages for such events as green closures due to inclement weather. Quite a few members have already signed up, and the more that do the better we can keep members informed. Full details can be found on the following link: Mulgrave Country Club Bowls Section App David West. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------30/10/2014 Volunteers Wanted From the 28th November, 2014 through to the 23rd of December 2014 a small number of corporate bowls events will be conducted on green 3 at our club. Please put your names on the sheet on the notice board in the alcove. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Saturday Pennant Keeping in contact with all bowlers in a team is very important. Especially when sides are playing away we ask that all skips liaise with their team to ensure that all the bowlers are available and able to get to the venue. If bowlers are in doubt and have not heard from their skip they should initiate contact. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------26/9/2014 Bowls Website I hope you are enjoying the new format for the Bowls website, particularly those who access it on tablet computers or smart phones. For those who only access it on a desktop computer, try changing the width of the browser window and see how the content re-arranges to suit. You will have noticed a change in the main icons, and we have added a more prominent link to the Club's main web page. Thanks go to Phil Morrison for his artistic endeavours, and to John Leitch for his input. The Selection Committees are now directly updating the Pennant Teams and Results. My thanks to Alison Meakin (Midweek) and Barry Fleming (Saturday), and to their assistants. Frank Barlow is maintaining the Midweek Pennant Ladders and Bill Cook will be maintaining the Saturday Pennant Ladders. My thanks to both. David West. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------15/9/2014 Justice of the Peace For any MCC bowling member who requires documents witnessed, please note that Graeme Griffiths is a Justice of the Peace.
