T he 48th Annual Winter Glow Ball to benefit The ARC of Monmouth was recently held at the Navesink Country Club with over 300 supporters in attendance. The event honored Joe and Anita Roselle on the occasion of Anita’s 25th anniversary as chairman of this event. Tim McLoone was also honored with the Humanitarian Award and supplied the music that made the event a very special one! The ARC is a vital source of well-being for over 1,300 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Monmouth County. The Roselle Family proudly stood together for a photo: Veronica, Joe and Anita, Valentina, and Peter and Kristina. Some close friends and family pitched in with light-hearted roasts of the Roselles which had many attendees laughing out loud! The 25 Year Committee members were honored at the Winter Glow Ball. Paone, Jr. DECEMBER 5, 2014 17 TWO RIVER PEOPLE By Lynne Ward BUILDER’S GENERAL HOSTED EVENT FOR HOMELESS VETERANS Julia Bey Ahmet (Vice President of development, Hope for Veterans) with T.J. Shaheen (Vice President, Builder’s General). H ope for Veterans will be the recipient of funds raised by Builder’s General in conjunction with Eco Building Products. Builder’s General recently hosted an event for Hope for Veterans, a non-profit that assists homeless veterans in New Jersey, with programs that have expanded into Monmouth County 6 months ago. Donations of men’s coats, blankets and dry food items are still being accepted at all Builder’s General locations, and Eco Building Products will donate a percentage of sales of their defensive Christmas Tree Spray to Hope for Veterans. The Shaheen Family are the owners of the BG location in Little Silver: Betsy Shaheen Saffra, L.P. Shaheen, Phil Shaheen, Mar y Shaheen White, Tim, Easton, Michael and T.J. Shaheen. Many area veterans came out to support the event. OCEANIC FREE LIBRARY HELD 4TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE T he Oceanic Free Library in Rumson was filled with shoppers and holiday cheer at the recent 4th Annual Shopping Boutique. The evening featured over 20 venders (local artists, jewelers, crafters and more) with a percentage of all sales being donated to the library. Library board members and staff members include (from left): Mandy Hintelmann, Teresa Makin, Carolyn Miller, Dan Berg, Ed Pomphrey, Nancy Haaren, Maureen Oberdorf, Nancy Laird, Ann Marie Erwin and Nanette Reis. It was wonderful to see shoppers supporting local artists and the library at the same time with their campaign to raise funds for a new roof and HVAC system. Area musicians donated their time and talents to perform at the event. T he ladies of the Holy Cross PTA in Rumson organized a Turkey Trot which included a 5-mile run, 1 mile run and kiddie dashes to raise funds to support the Holy Cross School (pre-school through 8th grade). Holy Cross PTA members who took part in the planning of the day included (from left): Michelle Barber, Jennifer Giunta, Tracy Cornette, Joan Truscio, Andrea Wrench and Liz Hempstead (PTA president), pictured with Antonio Mezza Soriano (center, winner of the 5-mile run). Antonio Mezza Soriano won the Turkey Trot for the second year, crossing the finish line well before anyone else! The first place female in the 5-mile run was 13 year-old Kelly Wimmer, of Little Silver, with her proud mom, Catherine at her side! Eighth grade student Jack Hempstead won the 1-mile race, surrounded here by fellow Holy Cross students. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS ACADEMY INDUCTS SEVEN ALUMNI AND ONE TEAM INTO SCHOOL’S HALL OF FAME T he CBA community recently celebrated the induction of its 2014 Hall of Fame honorees at the annual CBA Hall of Fame Gala held at the Shore Casino in Atlantic Highlands. The CBA Hall of Fame honors those members of the community who best exemplify CBA ideals and who have brought credit and distinction to the Academy. This year’s inductees include alumni from the 1960s to 1990s and represent a number of fields and areas of expertise and accomplishments.The inductees are pictured here (from left): Michael Quinn, Brother Charles Kitson, FSC, Tony Reali, Robert W. Lutkewitte, Paul Molzon, Bernard Arnella and David Santamaria. Tony Reali is a sports media personality, writer and television host. He is the anchor of ESPN’s Around the Horn and social media correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America. Attending members of CBA’s 1977 state champion baseball team with Coach Martin Kenney (back row, far right). Brother Frank Byrne, FSC, President of CBA presented a hall of fame award to Tony Reali (center). Mark Russo (right) is the chairman of the selection committee. Any member of the CBA community may nominate an individual or a team for membership in the Hall of Fame. Nominations are reviewed and final selections are made by a committee composed of the CBA president and senior school administrators, Alumni Association president, and representatives from the Board of Trustees. This well attended event “celebrated life” with entertainment from The Haven and a Spanish themed menu. Proceeds from the event will support MHA’s free programs and services that are available to all families in Monmouth County. Ramon Solhkhah, M.D., Chairman of Psychiatry, Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Corporate Medical Director, Meridian Behavioral Health Services (left) was honored for his tremendous efforts to advocate, educate, and treat those affected by mental illness and drug addiction in Monmouth County. CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY’S 8TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE FASHION SHOW T he Cancer Support Community of Monmouth Medical Center (CSC of MMC) will pick up where the Cancer Support Community North Jersey Shore left off. After seven years, the Eatontown location closed and the local affiliate will now be housed in the Long Branch and Lakewood locations of Monmouth Medical Center. The 8th Annual Celebration of Life was recently held at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club in Farmingdale.
